On arrival at reception we were taken to our room - up 4 flights of stairs - no lift. room very drab, uninviting and the carpet old with many stains. Saw 2 other rooms each were as drab as the 1st, eventually settled for a room on the ground floor,decor old and drab, rising dap in the ensuite. Breakfast adequate. Photos of the hotel have been greatly enhanced
Beds were ok but ? cleanliness of the blankets.
Very, very disappointing. We were booked in for 5 nights but moved out after 1 night to a much more comfortable and clean hotel.

The pictures vs. the acutal thing were very disappointing. The rooms seemed renovated over a decade ago, there was no shower curtain, making it difficult to avoid water falling on the floor. The blankets were herendous.... Seems they haven't been changed since they were first put in. They also tried to charge us for 2 breakfasts, when only my husband took one and we were not instructed on check in that this was was not refundable. Housekeepping apparently doesn't dust off frequently, since there was a huge layer of duster on the hair dryer and on the extra close up mirror in the bathroom. Lastly, there was no mini bar in case someone wanted some water, etc.
Apart from the historic building and the fairly close location to town, this hotel is not worth it's value of 130 Euro / night excluding breakfast of 15 Euro / person and parking not included.

I stayed at the Monasterium Poortackere for 1 night for business purposes. As I found the normal rooms to be quite expensive, I booked a room in the "Slot guesthouse" instead with toilet and shower on the corridor. Despite the charming setting, the hotel did not live up to my expectations. Staff was not unfriendly, but did not seem too interested neither. My room was on the 2nd floor at the end of the corridor. Opposite of my room door were 2 big moist and rotten patches in the wall, flaking off on to the floor. Cobwebs right next to the sink and in the ceiling corners! Crumbs on the carpet, clearly the room had not been vacuum cleaned for some time. Last but not least, there were no towels in the corridor toilets, which is not very practical after washing your hands.
When checking out, staff did not bother to ask about my stay. Therefore I wrote a complaint to the hotel after returning home, which was never even answered. Maybe this last thing bothered me the most, speaking about customer satisfaction...
Even though the hotel has a charming setting and a good breakfast, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone for the above reasons.

Our stay at the hotel for one night was promising, when looking at the nice website, pictures and picture painted on the website. However, disappointment took over soon after arrival. Poor rooms, very poor rooms when looking at the prices (140 Euro's per room per night), a non-working shower, a non-working bedlamp, dirty carpets, very oldfashioned use of colour in the rooms. Locations is so so, no too far from the center, but there are better hotels at these prices as far as location goes.
Service was somewhat slow, however staff tried to make the most of it.
I would not recommend this hotel if you have another option!
