We stayed in this hotel for two nights during the Gentse Feesten. It is well situated just outside the city centre, with good tram links and at an easily walkable distance. Very friendly staff, working very hard to make sure everything was okay, great soft beds and the most amazing breakfast buffet! We loved all the different types of bread and especially the home-made preserves and chocolate paste! We loved every minute of our stay in this hotel and will most certainly go back for our next trip to Ghent. Een absolute aanrader!
We had a nice stay. When we arrived we recieved a warm welcome and helpful information about transportation to the centre. The breakfast was nice, the room clean and with a soft bed. It was a warm night and we had a room on the front, so we didn't sleep all that well with the railroad in front of the hotel. Apparently there are also rooms in te back (nice garden!0, ask for one of those. Next to the hotel there are also rooms, in teh hotel itself seems more cosie.
Introduction :
Allthough I’m living near Gent, I choose to book a room as we were attending a concert and it would be late after the event.
Hotel Astoria was one of the only option left as most of the hotels were fully booked.
This is a 3 stars « only ».
Dates of stay:
July 6th, 2011
The Exterior:
Modern building, very clean looking.
The Area:
At 10 minutes walking from the railway station or from the very center of the city.
The area is close to the train tracks but we were not disturbed at all by the noise.
The Interior:
Very clean looking too and nicely decorated.
The check in:
No complains, it was fast and very friendly.
I was asked for payment preferences but not to prepay or garantee the bill per credit card.
The room:
We got the Bellevue room, with a large terrace.
Very nice looking, king size bed, small working desk and sitting area, minibar.
The space in the room is very large considering the stars level of the hotel.
The AirConditioning/Heating:
No AC. That could be a problem but allthough it was quite hot when we arrived, opening the windows at night made the trick.
The Bathroom:
A small bathroom but in two separate areas : one is dedicated to the Jacuzzi bath, the other to the toilet and sink. No amenities but hand soap in a dispenser and douche gel/shampoo in another dispenser at the bath.
The Bed:
Great bed, certainly nothing wrong with it.
The Breakfast:
From 6 am till 10.00
Of course don’t expect a huge buffet but you will find the essentials for a good breakfast.
Check out:
Fast and efficient.
Service/Housekeeping:
Cannot comment.
I really like:
- The location and the huge terrace of the room which was proposed to us after I asked where I could smoke.
I really dislike:
Nothing to point here except that the shutters are very very slow to open or close.
My conclusion:
If you’re looking at spending not more than 140€ Breakfast included, for a night in Gent and want a decent room close to almost everything, it’s a good choice.
If, like me, you prefer more stars…well you know what to do :-)
All the best,
Stephane
Stayed at Horel Astoria as part of a long weekend visiting Gent. Service was great, staff helpful and the owner interesed and engaging. We will stay here again - beds very comfortable and inclusive continental breakfast was excellent. We have stayed in hotels all over Europe and as a 3 star this is up there with the best.
