Introduction :
Allthough I’m living near Gent, I choose to book a room as we were attending a concert and it would be late after the event.
Hotel Astoria was one of the only option left as most of the hotels were fully booked.
This is a 3 stars « only ».
Dates of stay:
July 6th, 2011
The Exterior:
Modern building, very clean looking.
The Area:
At 10 minutes walking from the railway station or from the very center of the city.
The area is close to the train tracks but we were not disturbed at all by the noise.
The Interior:
Very clean looking too and nicely decorated.
The check in:
No complains, it was fast and very friendly.
I was asked for payment preferences but not to prepay or garantee the bill per credit card.
The room:
We got the Bellevue room, with a large terrace.
Very nice looking, king size bed, small working desk and sitting area, minibar.
The space in the room is very large considering the stars level of the hotel.
The AirConditioning/Heating:
No AC. That could be a problem but allthough it was quite hot when we arrived, opening the windows at night made the trick.
The Bathroom:
A small bathroom but in two separate areas : one is dedicated to the Jacuzzi bath, the other to the toilet and sink. No amenities but hand soap in a dispenser and douche gel/shampoo in another dispenser at the bath.
The Bed:
Great bed, certainly nothing wrong with it.
The Breakfast:
From 6 am till 10.00
Of course don’t expect a huge buffet but you will find the essentials for a good breakfast.
Check out:
Fast and efficient.
Service/Housekeeping:
Cannot comment.
I really like:
- The location and the huge terrace of the room which was proposed to us after I asked where I could smoke.
I really dislike:
Nothing to point here except that the shutters are very very slow to open or close.
My conclusion:
If you’re looking at spending not more than 140€ Breakfast included, for a night in Gent and want a decent room close to almost everything, it’s a good choice.
If, like me, you prefer more stars…well you know what to do :-)
All the best,
Stephane
