I stayed with my wife and kids at the Gravensteen for 2 nights. First, the good points. The hotel is in a great location, right across from Gravensteen castle in the older part of the city, which is where most of what you will want to see is located. The staff are professional and helpful, but, while not unfriendly, are also not welcoming either. Our room was big, in what I believe is the older part of the hotel, and the room had a nice tub and shower.
Now for the bad. The bed was not very comfortable, sloping in towards the center. The sleeper sofa installed into the room was more comfortable, but still not great. The doors didn't close well, as if the building had shifted a bit. And, the rooms with the tub and with the toilet were overall clean, but really needed some detail cleaning, with mildew in the various cracks and between tiles. Wireless wasn't fee, but also wasn't too expensive (at least if you didn't need it for that long), and at least seemed to work well. Finally, the breakfast was extremely expensive, especially given the number of places close by where one could grab something to eat, so we didn't sign up for it.
