Many years ago I stayed at this hotel and decided never again but decided due to limited accommodation in Gent to give it another try. It had to have been renovated after all those years..... It has and first impression were - you get what you pay for but fair enough it is a reasonable standard. You can park on the street nearby after 7pm for a few Euros, your greeted pretty well, and the room seems reasonable for what you (normally) pay (think the prices were a little high due to the high demand that week). A few things then started to nag, the bathroom at first seemed clean, but the walls were a bit grubby, the first towel I picked was clean-ish (there was something on it), and you can't sit straight on the toilet as the wall is so close! Then best of all was the AC/heater that even after you have turned it off made a noise. This plus the trams going regularly from 5am meant little sleep (I wasn't the life and soul of the meeting the next day). Breakfast wasn't bad but it was 14€! I complained the next day about the AC/heater and was told it was the bathroom ventilation - it wasn't as chucking a blanket over the one in the room shut it up! All the towels next day were clean and the receptionist I complained to gave me ear plugs. I wanted to like this place but will avoid if I can in the future, if you have to stay here avoid room 206 as my colleagues didn't have the issues with the AC/heater and trams (lucky them).

I am not giving 5 Stars to this Hotel, just because it is a no frill and simple hotel, but it has a lot to offer. We paid very little (£60 per night inclusive of breakfast) and we were not expecting such good quality hotel!

Highlights - Breakfast is excellent, location is probably the best in town (lovely views onto the Cathedral), great staff at the bar and lovely powerful shower. Things that could be improved - The Staff at the reception was not always helpful as you would expect, they did not want to advise us where to eat and they did not know Museums opening times, etc...

Rather than this small negative point, we found the hotel value for money and definitely reccomend it if you are looking for a 4 star hotel at the price of 2!

The location is great, in the centre, nearby shops, restaurants and cathedrals. The room is small, but clean. Everyday new towels, shampoo and shower gel is provided, also a hairdryer. Breakfast is okay, different sorts of bread, cereals, fruit, eggs, cheese, marmelade and yoghurt. Simple but okay hotel for a city trip Ghent.

We went to stay in this hotel in gent after staying in a fairly luxurious, 4 star hotel in Amsterdam so since this was a 2 star it really was a step down. However for a 2 star it was nice. The bed was comfortable. And the room and bathroom were fairly clean. No free in room internet though. (We got a sim card for my phone and tethered our internet from that. 10 Euro for 2G of data was fine and we could then use mobile trip advisor from the phone, etc.)

In comparison we got a special on the 4 star in both amsterdam, and later the 4 star in brussels so those stays were something like 85 Euro a night were as the ibis was something like 67 a night. Personally I would pay the extra 18 euro for the 4 star hotels but we couldn't find any in gent. Thus we went with the Ibis. It started off not so good though since the shower was blocked. If you showered for 5 minutes the shower pan filled up with water and started to overflow. I went down in the morning and told reception. They said they were going to fix it, but the next night and the next night the shower was still not fixed. On checking out of the hotel I noticed they advertised everywhere that they will fix your problems within 15 minutes or "the stay is on us". So I said this to the reception and after a tiny bit of "we need to ring a manager", "we can offer you one night free", etc. I pointed out that the shower was not working for the last two nights with plenty of notice from me. They agreed and gave us the last two nights accommodation free! So they really do honor there word on this. At least in our case! The receptionist we checked out with was very nice, and the bar woman was also extremely nice and friendly!

So in conclusion I would definitely recommend this hotel (since I think the blocked shower thing was an exception and they handled it very well) and it is good value for money.
