“good location, friendly, good service, spacious room”

We stayed at the Hotel de Flandre in Namur for 1 nights. It's very centrally located, immediately opposite the railway station. Our room was very largewith large bathroom - the decor was relatively plain. Given the location, I was concerned that it could be noisy, but we stayed in a room at the back and could not tell it was in the middle of the city.

Very friendly service.

“unpleasant”

Why do so many 2* hotels insist on trying to claim a 3rd star? The Grand Hotel de Flandre has 3* written on everything from the coasters to the bill, but it does not make the hotel any nicer. While the place claims to have been remodeled in the last couple of years it is still rather drab. The rooms are small, the linens are coarse, and the breakfast selection is poor (cold meat and cheese, no fruit). And on Saturday night we were treated to pounding dance music (even with the window shut) until 2:30 AM.

“Good Value & Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2006

This was a decent hotel in a town that seems to have a short supply of visitors' rooms. We stayed there three nights, and before we arrived, decided to upgrade from a standard to a suite. We had been staying in close quarters for a week and looked forward to a little more space. It was worth the extra $15. or so per night. The room was spacious with a little seating area near a desk. The free WiFi internet service didn't reach our room, but it was easy enough to take a lap top down to the breakfast room.

Hotel de Flandre is across the street from the central train station. The hotel has a special arrangement with the city for the city parking garage, at the end of the square that the hotel faces. So parking was either free or very cheap.

We were in Namur over Xmas, but the hotel helped us find a place to eat. And we could have done it on our own, as it turned out. We found decent food both Xmas eve and Xmas day.

As we were there in December, outside air was not a concern.
The fenestration system was excellent--there were double windows, each with double glass. So the busy square in front was separated from us by four panes of glass. I don't know what happens in the summer, as I think there is no air conditioning.
It might be noisy then, but we were very comfortable.

“Great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2004

A well-run, very comfortable, conveniently located hotel. It's been remodeled and refurbished since I was there in 2001--like the futuristic train station across the street, the newest in Belgium. Given the location, the rooms are surprisingly quiet. I found the staff extremely helpful. Twice they prepared breakfast early for me, on their own initiative, when I had to catch a train before the dining room opened. The breakfasts are generous and the food fresh--meats, cheeses, sliced fruit, etc. Namur is a very charming provincial town, and the old city (car-free) is only a few blocks away. I stayed at the hotel in April, 2004.

“Friendly, Central Location, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2004

We stayed at the Hotel de Flandre in Namur for 4 nights recently. It's very centrally located in a turn of the century building, immediately opposite the railway station. Our room was moderately sized and the decor is a quite subdued blue and yellow scheme.

Given the location, I was concerned that it could be noisy, but we had 2 sets of double glazing on the window, and noise was not a problem. The major disadvantage is the lack of air conditioning. I imagine that the rooms would get quite stuffy in hot weather.

The best thing about this hotel was the staff who were very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was continental style. The choice was a little restricted, but the quality was good.

There is no parking at the hotel, but you can park in the nearby Parking Leopold and take your ticket to reception to get a hotel ticket at 2.50 Euros.

Overall it was good for a 3 star hotel.
