My wife and I took a driving trip around Belgium and were taken by the beautiful pictures we saw of the river valley near Dinant and the descriptions of L' Auberge de Bouvignes. We had a wonderful time, in no small part due to the incredible hospitality we were shown by Vincent and his wife. A highlight of our trip to Belgium was the long scenic bike ride we took along the valley and then up the excellent bike path up to the Maredous Abbey where we had a delightful lunch along with a wonderful Abbey ale. Vincent provided the bikes and the directions of course! That night, he wanted to make sure we could have a drink with dinner and not worry about driving the 10 minutes back from Dinant so he drove us to town and gave us his cell number to call when we were ready to be picked up. There was nothing that we asked about that was too much to ask. Our room had been recently restored and the windows faced directly into the side of the mountain/hill - not much on the scenery but extremely private! The hotel is right along the main road with a low wall on the other side - you walk to that low wall, down a few steps and you are right on the river side and right where the bike path is - could not be more convenient if you like to walk or ride. (and according to Vincent, this path is where Rommel used when he stayed at the inn in the early days of WWII). Dinant is worth seeing for its fortress on the hill and its lovely church but for us the attraction was really the lovely countryside and the spectacular hospitality.
On a practical note - great free WiFi and a really reasonable room rate were icing on the cake. Really an exceptional place to stay.
