We visited Bastogne for 3 days in May 2011 as part of a WWII trip across Europe. We secured the services of a local tour guide (Henri Mignon - also FANTASTIC) since there are surprisingly few formal tours to Battle of the Bulge sites. Henri strongly recommended the Hotel Melba and it was definitely a great recommendation. We were greeted warmly upon our arrival by the owner, who spoke perfect English and could not have been nicer. The rooms were not opulent, but were clean and had everything you need including free WiFi, small refrigerator, TV, and even a desktop computer. We stayed in one of the large family rooms (4 single beds) so we had more than enough space. The shower door was a little odd, but not a big deal.
Also, we thought the FREE breakfast buffet was fantastic. Excellent choices with most of the "normal stuff" Americans are used to but rarely see in Europe. The hotel restaurant was also quite good. Overall, I enthusiastically give the Hotel Melba an excellent recommendation and I will definitely stay there again if I ever get back to the area. Thanks for a great experience in Bastogne!
