“Hotel Progress has pros and cons”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Pros; Location is good as it is near the Gard du Nord and beside other major hotels such as Crowne Plaza, Hilton and Sheraton. It is situated at the top of the main shopping street so it is an interesting 15 minute walk down the main commercial street to the Grande Place which is the central tourist area. Rooms are comfortable with a fridge and air-con. The beds are VERY comfortable. The ambiance of the hotel is pleasant and a nice touch is the free massage chairs in the hotel lobby - very welcome if you have over-done the sight-seeing on foot. There is free wi-fi in the lobby area but not in the rooms.
Cons; The is no room service at all and only a small coffee shop at the entrance to the hotel where you can buy a snack or coffee, however this closes around 6ish so from then onwards no food or drink is available. There is a coffee machine in the room BUT it costs 3 euros to make each cup of coffee in the Nespresso machine. There is no hotel car parking but a secure public car park is available around the corner for 13 euros per day.
We got the room on an internet deal and I would not like to pay the full price as it falls short or its 4 star ranking.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the inwards facing courtyard as these are VERY quiet rooms.

“new, nice, tidy hotel but really expensive and noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2010

the hotel is small and you nearly pass it without noticing, the progress hotel in brussels. it is close to the northern trainstation (gare du nord). the lobby and the rooms are quite new and a modern style.

i had an "executive room" which was medium sized, not too small, not too big. i guess regular rooms are quite small. the bed was big and comfortable, the desk was big.
there was a new nescafe machine - i am glad i red the reviews on this website before, otherwise i would not have realized that one cup of coffee is 3€. speaking of which - the mini bar is really expensive.

the windows where next to the street, i got awaken a couple of times by really loud sirenes of police or emergency cars. it was also not possible to warm the room without using the noisy climatisation - i had to wake up to a cold room.

for the price it was not a good experience.

“Great Hotel, not bad location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

The bed here is amazing! One of the softest, most cozy beds I have ever been in. I was concerned that it was a twin but all concerns are gone. I have the Superior Room with business package so you get free internet, breakfast, Fitness center for 149 Euro per night. You are a block away for the Brussels Nord station and the Rogier station so you can get just about anywhere quickly by Metro. I am on the courtyard so it is very quiet. There is no room service but the hotel is connected to the Club Cafe where they serve breakfast in the morning. It is closed on Sunday's which is when I arrived after the breakfast time. Everything is closed in the area on Sunday so get something to eat at the airport or train station if arriving then. The breakfast is fine, nothing fabulous but all that I need. Cereal, yogurt, fruit, meat, cheese, eggs, coffee. The staff are helpful and friendly. If you want to walk to some of the sights, it would be a bit of a walk but like I said, the metro is right here and cheap. Bring a internet cable for your computer. I didn't get wireless in the room. Internet service is great though.

“All in all, I wouldn't recommend it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

A hotel with basic services. No restaurant (just a caffetteria that closes in the afternoon), you're obliged to go out for dinner even if you'd prefer to have something in your room.
You cannot ask for anything in the room, neither for a sandwich, they haven't no room service at all. There are no snacks in the minibar (just a chocolate bar).
Rooms are clean and modern, but not very spacious and some of them are noisy. Location is close to the center, but not the nicest part, it is not reccommended to walk alone during the night. Prices are high for what you get (150€/night only bed).

“Lovely little hotel great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

The taxi journey from the airport to this hotel cost around 45 Euros.
Upon arriving the check in process was very straight forward.
The room was basic yet had a warm feel to it, the bed was very comfortable, despite the hotel being on a main road - I did sleep soundly.
The bathroom was little yet the facilities were more than adequate.
The hotel is located a very short walk away from the main train station.
I needed to borrow an iron at 11.00pm and an adaptor plug for my laptop at 1.00am - both of which were brought up without any problem.
Overall very satisified with this place.
