Stayed here for a couple of nights at the start of January.
Selected this hotel as it offered good overall value, paid around £20 or so extra per night for a 'business class' room, which is mostly recouped by the inclusion of breakfast in the rate, which is otherwise e15pp.
Check in mid-afternoon was easy in an otherwise deserted lobby, both my late check-out and high-floor room request was honoured - on the site it says there's 13 business rooms, most of which seemed to be on my (top) floor.
Room was reasonably sized, bed and desk areas laid out in a "L" floorplan with windows on two sides. The layout seemed to make the square footage less effective in terms of perception of space, but from the in-room floorplans it seems like almost each room is different on the 7th floor, so you might find it a bit of a lottery. Saying all that it was still perfectly comfortable - you can see from the photos.
Furnishings were in good condition overall, a couple of small stains on the carpet and the white net curtains just showing a slight touch of hand prints where you'd draw them open or closed - so I wouldn't say it was ready for a deep spring clean yet, but soon. No drawers anywhere for your smalls n whatnot! Also for a modern, international business hotel I'm non-plussed why they can't include a international plug-socket console, at least by the desk - how's everybody who's not from Belgium supposed to charge up their laptops/phones/mp3 players/speakers/cameras? Benefits of the room upgrade include bathrobe, a nespresso coffee maker, also apparently better toiletries.
The wall mounted console-type bench unit that includes a hanging rail, mirror, tv and low bench seems a bit of a design hit-or-miss dependent on your taste - but what I hated was it's use as an ambient lighting mounting - there was white-tone low energy lighting under the bench and along the top running edge. Effective at lighting the space but immensely crap as relaxing mood lighting - Very flourescent tubes, frankly. Maybe when they start replacing the bulbs they can use warm-tone ones? Bathroom nice, good sink and counter-top set-up with plenty of space to spread out your own stuff, and a good range of complimentary toiletries. There's a seperate shower to the bath - water pressure just adequate, they have eco-type shower heads.
Bed was very comfortable, really good nights sleep. The 'king' was made up of two singles, topped w two single duvets - I know couples who sleep w two single duvets so thought this quite clever, but the single mattresses mean there's a ridge in the middle of the bed. Guess there's cost savings involved w a replacement schedule here, and other numerous time/cost savings they've discovered by doing it this way....Never mind, just spread yourself across both sides if you want to - hey why bother w a king otherwise!
Wireless internet was complimentary throughout the hotel, a good perk, reasonably high-speed (didn't use it for anything demanding) and nice not to be paying £15 or whatever for it that some places charge. Breakfast was a good selection of foodstuff, reasonable quality - A good range of french pastries and breads, cold meats, cheeses, cereals, hot dishes and juices. Everybody got a thermos jug of coffee at their table when they sat down (and requested coffee, of course!). Eggs could be done to order.
Also ate in the restaurant on the first night as it was storming outdoors, a tasty and fresh tomato soup, burger a little less ambitious than those served in properties belonging to US chains. Oh do note, if you want to tip your nice waiter/waitress, you can't write it onto your chit along with your signature, by law they can't add it or something. So remember to bring a little cash with you when you go downstairs, and tip direct as appropriate.
If you're having drinks in your room there are ice machines in the hotel, one on the 7th floor and one I believe on the 5th.
This review's marked as a 4/5 as there's 1/2 point knocked off for the ghastly console lighting, and another half point deduction for a bath-tub that had a not small number of hairs in it when I checked in which was a little unfortunate; Anyway was heading straight out again so told front desk when passing and it was spotless when I got back.
Room Tip: Check out rate on business rooms, more expensive but they include breakfast so if you're a coupl...
