“Good location”

My fiancé booked this as part of a deal through a website so the price we paid for this accommodation was average. I am glad we did not pay full price as this is not a 4* hotel! Reception area very nice and staff friendly despite previous reviews. First room stank of smoke but we were immediately moved to a brighter and fresh smelling room so I was happy. Despite being on the main road and not liking noise when I sleep, it was surprisingly quiet. breakfast very good but as previously stated by another reviewer there is no bar after 10am! Great location though being a 5-10 min walk from the train station (Eurostar) and then 5-10 from Grand Place. Rooms are clean and the power shower was fab but walls are peeling and the curtains and carpets could do with a clean. A lick of paint would go a long way in this place. However, I've been to two 3* hotels in Paris and Frankfurt only 1-2 weeks before this and they were appalling for their grading. if they were 3* then this deserves it's 4*.

“good sized rooms!”

I enjoyed my stay in this hotel, the rooms were very large and modern. The fitnesscentre was a highlight of the hotel, especially in the evenings when I wanted to relax. The staff was not bad, not good... but there to provide us with any information we needed.

“Never again”

On arrival, the reception we were given left a lot to be desired. The only member of staff on duty seemed more interested in his computer than welcoming visitors. We were eventually given a pass to our room & told it was on the first floor, no assistance was offered with luggage etc. On entering the room our first impression was one of disgust as someone appeared to have vomited on the floor immediately outside the bathroom. The room itself was quite large, however, the overall impression was one of poor management & cleaning.
The net curtains over the windows were so dirty & grey that one felt like washing ones hands as soon as you touched them. The carpet behind the entrance door had never been vacuumed as was evidenced by a thick layer of dust on the carpet. A spiders web in the bathroom window had several weeks worth on insects in it & this was not removed whilst we were there. We were told that this was a 'superior' room, goodness knows what a standard room was like. The room safe did not work, there was no drinks making facilities, the 'fridge was missing, I could go on. In fairness the breakfast was good as was the location.

Room Tip: I was not aware of any better rooms

Dear Pam,

thank you for taking the time and writing a review about your stay. Needless to say, this leaves us with a bad feeling.

If our Staff member seemed more intrested in his computer than welcoming visitors we would like to apologize as it was defenitely not his intention but it just happens to be so that all processes (check-in / check-out/ filling in guest profiles etcetera) our computerized -he probably was just working diligently.

Replying onto your other remarks would bring us too far but I regret that you did not take up these matters to the management during your stay as we would have been able to address them more appropriately.

We do hope to have the chance to welcome you again in our hotel.

“HIGHLY UNRECOMMENDED 1 STAR HOTEL !!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We have just returned from a three night stay at the Floris Hotel.
Oh boy - where do we start.

Checking in was easy however staff made no effort to welcome us, take our cases or show us to our room.

Our allocated room was large but exceedingly basic. The shower curtain and rail were on the floor in a corner of the bathroom. The paint was peeling off the bathroom wall. On complaining we were offered an alternative room which was in the attic and extemely small. We decided to stay in the larger room and were given a supply of towels to mop up the water from the shower !!!!!

The safe did not work.

There was no tea or coffee making facilities or slippers and bathrobes which we should have had being in an "executive" room.

On day 2 we were left with 4 hand towels - the hotel had run out of bath towels. These hand towels were not enough to dry us never mind soak up the excess water from the shower - remember we had no shower curtain. After 2 phone calls we were supplied with bath towels when the next delivery of laundry arrived.

On day 3 we were out of our room from mid morning to late afternoon. On returning housekeeping had not been anywhere near our room.

The web page describe a large lounge for guests and the in room write up states the hotel has a bar. Oh - it has a lovely bar with very nice glasses - pity it has no staff or liquid refreshments. There are no facilities for food or drink at all once the basic breakfast is cleared away at 10am.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE heed this write up as every word is true - Enter this hotel at your own risk and do not have any expectations of 4 star accomodation here.

My husband and I have done a lot of travelling and always stay in hotels 4 star and above and can honestly say this hotel wins hands down for being the worst we have experienced.

Room Tip: Don't cross the threshold

Dear Lorna,

Thanks for your extensive review about your stay however needless to say this leaves us with a very bad feeling. We do take all customer feedback seriously but feel as if the story told is unfair.

1. It is NOT obligatory for a 4* hotel to have a bellboy nor do we advertise that we have a bellboy. On top of that all floors are reachable by elevator so I do not understand why you are making a fuss about this.

2. We apologize for the inconvenience you suffered in the room you were given BUT in all fairness it has to be said that you (and only you) decided to stay in this room knowing you did not have a showercurtain and after being offered an alternative room - therefor I am not going to reply onto all your other bathroom-related complaints.

3. "The safe did not work" - I have been working in the hotel industry for over 5years now and received this 'complaint' several times. In 90% of the cases the safe does work....it just hadn't been set properly. In the other 10% of the cases the batteries are just running low - if this was the case we would have been able to fix it quit easily IF ONLY you had taken up this matter to the staff (or management) during your stay but .... you didn't.

4. Towel Issue: I guess you don't need to be a genius to do the math BUT if you would have accepted our alternative room, you would not have needed 8 towels to mop up the water and you would have had 12 towels left on the second day.

5. This one is true, your room had indeed not been cleaned until 4pm.
Fact: Housekeeping service hours are from 8am till 5pm.

Once again I sincerely apologize for the discomfort you may have experienced BUT I truly feel that the story written is not completely fair. On the lighter note; the showerrail and curtain have been replaced and I do hope to have the chance and restore your faith in our hotel!

Do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this matter further.

“Not a 4 star hotel!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

On the plus side, this hotel is only a short distance from the Gare du Midi - in fact the reception staff and even the taxi driver thought that we - two lady pensioners - should drag our heavy cases all the way on the rough cobbles in a not very salubrious area.
We had booked two single beds only to find the room had one large double and single. My friend slept for one night on the uncomfortable single bed, but the next morning we discovered the double bed was in fact two singles pushed together. We separated them but when my friend removed the bedding from the single bed, she found not just a worn out mattress but one stained with urine and several cigarette burns. After we had made up the beds to our satisfaction, the next day we found them pushed into the original state on our return from a day out, and the disgusting mattress covered up again. One curtain was hanging off the rail, and the net curtains had never seen a washing machine and were grey. On the carpet just inside the door was a suspicious stain which looked like vomit (it was also in the corridor near the lift). The handles to the balcony windows were broken off, and one of the lights wasn't working when we arrived. We replaced the bulb ourselves.
The small restuarant provided a good breakfast - the only good thing about the hotel. But there were no tea making facilities in the room, and the bar was never opened as "there weren't enough customers to warrant employing another person to open it". So we were directed to a bar up the road for a nightcap - not to be recommended for a couple of 60 year old ladies in this particular vicinity!
This hotel is advertised as 4 star - there is nothing 4 star about it, not even 3 star. We wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Our room was at the front and we were not disturbed by passing traffic. Don't start to unpack...
