Stayed one night for business. The hotel is situated in a very non-descript area of Brussels south-east of Gare Du Midi – there is nothing in the area of the interest, and although I didn’t think it felt dangerous like other reviewers did it is a bit on the grotty side. I'd want to stay closer to the centre of Brussels next time though.

Reception area is modern. Check in was quick although I was initially given a smoking room – I wasn’t asked at reception what I’d prefer, and the smell of smoke was strong in the first room given. Thankfully an alternative non-smoking room was available once I asked. The new room was functional – obviously given a makeover ie. lick of paint recently but had tired wood-chip furniture fittings that was marked and chipped in places, a large iron burn mark on the carpet, and a clean but average bathroom. The double bed was two single mattresses, one of which was bouncier than a water bed, the other slightly better. No air-con or fan which meant on a humid evening the window had to be open so you heard everything from the street. Not the best night’s sleep overall, especially when the clock radio went off at 5am which had presumably been set by the previous guest.

Breakfast was ok in a small but pleasant breakfast room off reception. Overall an average stay in an average hotel – it wasn’t cheap and the only positive about the area was the superb Taverne du Parc 5 minutes walk away where I had an excellent dinner.

Some distance away from town centre although 15mins walking from Midi, but if you are not afraid to walk (or sort out transport) you will not be disappointed. Clean and friendly, like some other people mentioned - basic, but very good. Breakfast is continental and served with impeccable professionalism. Adequately priced, in my opinion. In a nutshell, very descent budget accomodation. We will definitely stay there again.

We stayed 2 nights at Hotel de Fierlant in October 2011. The reception staff were among the nicest we encountered in Europe. They embodied the notion of 'service with a smile' and were very helpful. The hotel is a little removed from Brussels Midi station but the cab ride is quick and cost 10-12 euros.The breakfast selection was great and the free wi-fi connection an added benefit. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

The good: clean rooms/bathrooms,,very helpful staff...Free wi fi ..in a quiet street,, near a bus/tram stop (about 2 min walk)... around 11 euros by taxi from centre if you plan on coming back late night...

Walk to Brussels midi is about 10 min without any luggage..for the rpice internet should have been free

Not so good: not much to eat nearby.. a few shops... gets really quiet after around 2000 hrs, since this was a last moment booking there might be cheaper and equally good options available
