“Probably the best value hotel in Central Brussels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

I stayed here at the end of last month for the 3rd time. There are many other hotels for a similar price in Brussels but this is without doubt the closest to the centre. It is only 10 minute walk to Grand Place. The staff are friendly and all speak good English. Some reviews say the area is dodgy but this isn't true. Check out is at noon so not too early and they allow you to leave your bags. It's about 15 minutes walk to the Eurostar terminal. I didn't have breakfast in the hotel. There are so many cages and bars in the area. I would stay here once again if I came back to Brussels.

Room Tip: The room I had at the back room 41 has a very small window so is probably very hot in summer.

“Just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

It is a cheap place to stay in decent location. It is definitely a "no frills" hotel, the bathroom door didn't even close, the shower curtain was torn and old. There was warm water and a hard bed. The receptionist was nice and helpful.

“Disappointing.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2011

I chose this hotel based on it's location and the pictures showing the single room I was supposedly booking. The location was as advertised, however the room was far from the standard shown in the photograph. I was on the top floor of the hotel and the whole floor looked as though it was in the process of undergoing some refurbishment. The floorboards were bare and unsanded, and not finished in any way. The (shower) curtain which was covering the window was only big enough to cover two thirds of the window at any time. There was loud swearing coming from the room next door during my first night, which was more than a little disconcerting. The shower room and toilet were clean and functional although there was no hot water at any point during my stay. There was a working flat screen television in the room. The staff were polite throughout my stay.

“Stayed in a pigeon hole room”

I chose this hotel only based on it's location - walking distance from the main railway station from where I could catch the bus to the Charleroi Airport. And thats what I got, it's like they read my mind on my requirement.
I got a room on the top floor and so the living space was formed into the roof, like the attic. Anyway, I not complain as I just needed to sleep and leave early next morning.
Cleanliness was ok and not recommended for family.

“Never, Never Again.”

Brussels was the third stop for me and my boyfriend on our tour around central Europe and, after having stayed at two other hotels, in two other cities, we were starting to develope a picture of what European hotels would be like. For a price and location that we thought was reasonable we were amazed by how incrediably bad our hotel was in Brussels; and not simply because of banging penetrating from the rooms and buildings surrounding; and not because of the below average breakfast that was 7euros each, or even the twin beds that were pushed together that were hard as rocks and kept sliding apart during the night. No, the worst experience that we had at this hotel, and have had in the entirity of our trip around Europe, was the rude and -abusive- staff member. It began with us leaving the hotel with a pleasent evening in mind at the local irish pub (which was awesome when we eventually got there), we were told that we had to leave our key behind by the male, balding staffmember not to name names. Had the hotel not constantly been the center of activity for loud, suspicious looking individuals, we would not have minded leaving our key behind with the reception staff (as we have done in a number of other cities throughout Europe). When we refused to leave the key, and asked for the reason why we had to, he locked the front door of the hotel and would not allow us to leave. We argued for a few minutes longer, seeking evidence that we had signed something that indicated we were required to leave the key (which we hadn't and knew it since I study law and remember those sorts of things), eventually I, whilst my boyfriend continued to argue, went into the restaurant and escaped via a side door I had noted was unlocked that morning at breakfast. Having escaped the man saw me and began to curse and abuse me through the door and yell at my boyfriend who was still inside waiting to be allowed to exit via the front door.
I waited while my boyfriend spoke to the man, informing him that we would be leaving the hotel and would want the rest of our stay refunded. We left that hotel, with our refunded night 75euro and walked quickly down the road to the Bedford, a four star beautiful hotel and booked at room at the last minute (with breakfast included) for 75euro.
As a side note, excellent location, but then again the Bedford was just 100m up the road.

After the long story, in short, I'd recommend people NOT stay at this hotel. It is the worst hotel we have stayed at in Europe and we have, by our count, stayed at 12 thusfar and ALL of them have been of the same price and of much better quality and friendliness than the Aristote.
