We arrived in Brussels at around 9PM by train. We were quickly told that it was a bad area and pickpockets were abundant in that area especially at night so we started walking away from train station to find somewhere to stay quickly. We saw a giant carnival in full swing going on and then spotted a hotel right near it. We went in and the delightful man at the front counter said he'd show us the room first (we hadn't even asked to do this) and so we went up the quirky elevator and saw the room. They have very beautiful rooms at this hotel. Very darkly decorated but really comfortable and clean. The bathroom is what stood out to me, tiny sparkly blue tiles all over the bathroom, it was very nice. The whole place appeared new.
He let us have a double for 80 euro (possibly because of our late check in because I think the board said over 100 euro...?). It was one of the better nights of sleep we had in our 6 week backpacking trip. The room had a very clean bed with a soft comforter, private bathroom, television, and air conditioning. He offered a street view or backside view, We took the backside and it was very quiet even while a carnival was blasting on the otherside!
Additionally, there was free internet and a continental breakfast with meat, cheese, bread selection, boiled eggs, coffee/water/juice, and sweets.
