“This hostel was so terrible I jumped on the next train out of Brussels”

I thought this place was really hard to find using the directions from the website (and I'm pretty good with directions and maps) After wandering for about 45 mins, I accidentally stumbled across it (a complete fluke). The staff were fairly useless - luckily another girl who was staying there translated my English into French for them and then showed me the storage rooms etc. At night, I don't know if it was a karaoke party or what, but being kept awake ALL NIGHT by bad renditions of Michael Jackson was awful. I had paid for 2 nights, but was up at 6am the next morning to catch the next train out of there! I think for teens or early 20's the place would be great, but really not for a late 20's person like me!

“Very good youth hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2010

I stay one night with my friend in this youth hostel. We had booked a bedroom for 2. There where sanitary and shower inside. The room was large, clean and well soundproof
The breakfast is good and with lot of choice (cook pork meats, jam and butter...).
The negative point is the fact that the location is a bit off centre.

“Good option at Brussels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2010

I stay at Jacques Brel Hostel at the end of the year. Very clean hostel, good staff, has a very nice pub. The rooms and bathroom was in good condition. Near of subway, very easy to find. Brussels is a very large city, so be near the subway was very good, I could go to the every places in this way. Good point for the free wireless connection. Bad point for the washing machines, too expensive.

“Great base for travellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2009

This was the first youth hostel I stayed in when I travelled around Europe and I don't think we could have had a better place to start. We booked to be in a large dorm but because there were 4 of us we were in a room for 4 instead (not complaining as it would have cost more if we'd booked it that way) with an ensuite shower and toilets shared with the rest of the floor, which were all clean. We had our own lockers in our room which was good (need own padlocks), there was free internet in the bar or if the bar was closed then the internet was really cheap, breakfast was basic but good and there was a good secure luggage room (again need own padlock) which you can use if you check out in the morning and are travelling later in the day. Location wise it wasn't too hard to find and was really close to the botanic gardens which was nice, and there's a good cheap shop only a 5 minute walk away. Quick tram ride to the centre too. I'd really recommend this hostel :)
