“Horrible, Dirty and Noisy!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

The Chao Chow palace is located very close to Noord station, this means that noise can be very intrusive. Trains operate til 1am and start up again at 5am, between that you have non stop noise from the main road outside of the hotel (Police sirens etc.), Please check out my pictures and you will see what I mean by how close the hotel is to the railway line.
I had booked 2 rooms one on the 5th floor (mine) and one on the 7th (my parents). The carpets in both rooms were disgusting and the hallways even worse, and the cleanliness of the nets at the windows was abysmal.
The bed sheets were spotless and so was the pillow covers (obviously an external company that manages that), the throw on top of the sheets however had stains and stank.
I had booked for my parents to stay for 5 nights and myself for 1 however my mother was actually in tears with the disappointment and the fact she couldn't sleep from all the noise I had to take her home when I left.

Please whatever you do dont fall for the cheapest price when it comes to this place, for £5 more a night you can stay at a much better hotel. I wouldn't want anyone to stay here, as I know you will be disappointed.

I am not one to complain when it comes to hotels, I can put up with most things, but I cannot do dirty.

Once again, please check out my photos to see what I mean about location and cleanliness.

The bar serves: 3 types of beer, Tea, Coffee and Coke, That's all! so when the website says enjoy a nice relaxing exotic drink in the comfortable bar (I wouldn't hold up much hope)

Room Tip: all rooms are noisy! all at front.

I stay in the hotel at least twice a year sometimes more. The hotel is basic but very well situated very close to everything. The hotel is very clean and well maintained with big bedrooms. The staff are very friendly and very helpfull. It is also great value for money.

“Old but not a bad one”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2010

The location is close to the central part of the city. It is near to the metro stop. Basically one can walk to the grand place in about 15-20 mins, which is not too bad.

Hotel: an old hotel in average condition. Room is big with reasonable bed and bathrooms with bath tub. However, we notice there's a bad odour from the carpet. Breakfast was nothing spectacular. Anyway, for the price which we have paid, we think it is a reasonable choice in brussels considering its location and it is convenient.

“A place for the adventurous”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

This is a really "interesting" place to stay at. First of all, it is right bordering on the city's red-light district, with a sex shop next door.

Then it is rather tired looking, with worn carpets and the like. It was also the only time I'd ever ridden an elevator without any door, with the doorway just open.

I was upgraded on check-in for some reason (probably because I had booked a different hotel before and this one was suggested as an alternative after it turned out the first one was unavailable), and the room I got was really spacious - maybe thirty square metres - and facing the busy intersection in front of the hotel. Still everything looked tired.

Another interesting point is that the hotel seems to be run by, and targeted at, Chinese. This manifests itself in Chinese staff, bilingual notices and even breakfast menus (and meals). Not a problem of course - unless you expect a European atmosphere in the "capital of Europe".

“Avoid this dump and spend a few more Euros!”

This was a depressing, dull room. I booked through an agency and didn't check any reviews. I should have. As a single woman travelling alone this was not a good place to stay - right next to the redlight district. They really cater to an Asian market and one morning the place was absolutely packed with a tour group. Breakfast room was jam-packed. Reception staff were friendly enough. Easy to walk to the main areas of town. No decent restaurant nearby, though. Altogether, give it a miss. I returned to Brussels a week later and stayed somewhere else.
