I had to book a hotel last time, near Av. des Arts, and found Hotel Sabina, which I thought it was a 3 star hotel. I paid 85 Euros per night, including breakfast for a single room.
Well... The room is very tiny and I can step from the shower to the bed in one step. The bed is rather uncomfortable, I smelled cigarette although the room is supposed to be non-smoking and breakfast was less than satisfactory for the price.
I needed an iron and they gave me an old iron with a top plug exposed, which was a bit frightening. Also, when I came back from a meeting around lunchtime time, the reception was UNATTENDED. Basically, anyone could walk in, pick-up a key and steal whatever they wanted from any of the rooms. Later on the day, the main door was shut, which was a bit of a relief.
Having said that, the room and bathroom were clean and they have a decent free WIFI connection.
All in all, it is not the worse place I have stayed, but it is far from being great. There are lots of restaurants and metro stations nearby. It may be an option in emergencies.
