“Great Location, but a little dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

This is a great hotel for the money, location and being in Europe. The welcome was warm, staff attentive and the rooms very spacious.

The gym was a joke if honest, not sure anything worked as I gave up, but don't pack the gym kit for this hotel. The room was clean, but could have done with a really good clean. The sofa had head stains, like the carpet, chair and bed cover. Not gross ones, just ware and over use. But it was still a little off-putting.

The TV was really old, but the free Wifi, just stunning. Simply stunning that a hotel of this nature didn't try and rip you off with a wifi charge. It had DVD and Fax (not sure who uses a Fax machine these days?) with great size working desk.

Overall, a great hotel. a four star just, with great touches that make up for the shabby bits.

“Classy Hotel - Needs new TVs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

I've stayed at the Montgomery several times while on business. It's a great hotel for business travellers. Large (by Euro standards) rooms, comofortable bed, good breakfast, next to metro and helpful staff. The Montgomery is a bit old-fashioned but imho this is a nice change. The hotel is a fair distance from the centre so wouldn't advise for tourists but excellent for business people, competitive rates and close to airport. I agree with an earlier comment though, shop at the mini-mart across the roundabout for soft drinks, water and snacks. My 2 night stay was good. The only complaint I had was that the TV was ancient and couldn't get good reception despite the efforts of the staff to fix it. I'll stay there again (in fact I am spending a night there in 3 weeks or so) but an upgrade to the in-room entertainment wouldn't go amiss.

“Sol Four Stars for Convenience and Comfort- Could Improve Slightly on Housekeeping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

I've just returned from a business trip to Brussels and stayed at the Eurostars Montgomery for the first time. Overall, I was very pleased with my stay with a few minor gripes. I checked in around 9am on a Sunday and it was fast and efficient. My one gripe with the check in was that the front desk attendant announced my room number out loud while several other people were in the lobby. As a woman who frequently travels alone, I cringed at this. A big no no in my book. The room was well appointed with a comfortable bed, desk, fax machine, coffee table and sofa. There was also a DVD player in the room. A great set up to have after long days of meetings. And did I mention the free WIFI? A welcome bonus given how many hotels gauge on internet fees. Very nice perk. The towels were nice and plush and there was even a thick white bathrobe with slippers, a very nice touch. Of the complaints I have about my room were the sheets and the carpet. The blue carpet in my room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while and could have used a good shampoo. I also noticed that my pillow cases smelled (like someone had slept on them already though they looked clean) like the bed hadn't been changed. Worth a double check if you decide to stay at this hotel.

The continental breakfast in the main restaurant was nice and had a good variety to accommodate a range of tastes -- pastries, breads for toasting as well as yogurt, fresh fruit, cheese and deli meats including prosciutto di parma and genoa salami.

The staff were very courteous and helpful. As someone who does not speak French or Spanish (shame on me!) I had a few minor translation problems when trying to get directions, but nothing major. The hotel is walking distance to a number of very nice local restaurants as well as a mini-mart (buy your water there and avoid the outrageous mini-bar rates). The hotel is also close to the tram, subway (on strike when I was there) and of course, taxis are plentiful.

Like other reviews, I don't think this would be my first choice if I were in Brussels as a tourist as it's a bit far flung from the major attractions. But it's certainly convenient for business travelers as it's just a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport and located in Montgomery District close to many businesses. In all, a solid four stars with some room for improvement in housekeeping.

“Unexpected problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

I had high expectations, given the rating of this hotel. The reality fell somewhat short of that standard.

The room was attractive and spacious, and we were provided complimentary fruit and wine. However, the bed was uncomfortable, of a design I have never seen before. Two rather thin pallets were placed on a trampoline-like box spring, this made the occupants roll naturally to the middle, a feature that may be romantic but not conducive to sleep.

In addition, the room's light controls were wired in a strange serial fashion I have not seen in years, over-engineered to the point of imbecility (I am not a crank, but am a professional ergonomist who has spent a career designing systems for humans to use!). The setup required balancing switches -- since they were not independent, one change upset functionality. If you wake during the night to use the bathroom and it takes fifteen minutes of turning lights on and off to make the right light come on, something is wrong. The lady at the desk said that management was aware of the problem and had "talked about" fixing it. Talk faster or discard a star or two.

The bar/small dining area was attractive; the waiter (in the morning) was uncooperative and haughty; to secure a cup of coffee for my wife, I had to be more directive than I prefer when visiting another country. I see other comments about this, so it is a problem that requires attention.

“good hotel right next to a metro station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

A good 4 stars hotel out in the suburb of Montgomery but well connected to anywhere by the metro. All the staff I have contact with were very courteous helpful and professional. The room I was in was spacious and clean. There was no in-room tea and coffee making facility. The free wifi internet access was fast. There are a few good restaurants in vicinity.
