“A breath of yesteryear”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Love or hate? Both words would not be appropriate, but something in between.
For the purposes of my business trip the hotel had a good location, and in general terms the facility is ok - but the clock is ticking.... Wireless included.

With time the decor and facilities are becoming more and more outdated. Rooms are of good size, bathrooms well appointed and clean. But for a modern traveller this is like sleeping in a Laura Ashley showroom - ok if you like a very, very floral experience.

If booking early, rates offer good value, but at times the requested prices don't match with the offering.

This property is part of Small Luxury Hotels, but I do wonder how that is justified. Ok springs to mind, but at best this is old world luxury if that word is supposed to be used.

Not my first stay, but first time I had dinner here. Hasty and very cold service in almost empty restaurant. Shame really, as the restaurant / bar area could be one of their strengths.

There is fairly handy metro connection to central Brussels. Location works well for business purposes, but this would not be my choice for a weekend stay, unless friends/family etc. nearby.

Room Tip: Street side rooms can be a bit noisy in the morning, heavy traffic outside. See hotel website for th...

“hit and miss”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I stayed here with my mother in December to visit the Christmas market. The location is not central but the metro station is right outside the hotel and it was very convenient to get to Ste Catherine.

The room was large and although next to the lift it was very quiet. The decoration is a bit dated and the lights in the room were sometimes temperamental.

We didn't have breakfast there so I can't comment on the food. The mini bar prices are crazily high but that seems to be standard in all hotels. There was no kettle in the room. Really, I would rather have a kettle than a fax machine.

The shower and bath were good.

I booked this as a secret hotel where the name is revealed once your booking is confirmed. The rate was at a big discount but I think it was enough to pay. I would definitely consider other hotels if I visit again.

One annoying thing - the ticket from the airport for the airport bus can be used on the metro but for the return journey, you cannot buy a metro/airport bus combined ticket - annoying. Also, the metro ticket machines do not take euro notes - so you need a pocketful of coins!

“A once grand place slowly going to ruin”

I used to live in Belgium 5 years ago and lived quite near the Montgomery. The neighborhood is one of the better Brussels locations and the access to public transportation is excellent. We used to put the President of our company back then, in this hotel as it was elegant and convenient to the office.
Sadly, Eurostars seems to have bought this place for the reputation and then not ever invest one more dime into the property. Quite frankly, this has also convinced me that Eurostars is unable to run a hotel business and I would avoid staying in any of their properties.

The positives:
Apart from the location, the staff is still wonderful They are quite gracious and the care taken with the breakfast spread indicates that at least the staff still gives a damn. Sadly the uniforms don't appear to have been replaced in the past 5 years but they are clean. Breakfast was a good mix of fruits, bread cheese and cereals with a nice juice selection and hot eggs and bacon. The rooms are large but that is about the best thing I can say.

The negatives: The entrance is worn out. While clean, the carpet in my room was threadbare to the point where there is a hole in the carpet. The wallpaper has areas that are peeling, the TV is from 2000 or earlier, the drapes and bedcovers have also not been replaced in at least 10 years. Eurostars can thank their lucky stars that the furniture and decor quality was quite good when new and this is the only reason it has kept up as well as it has. A hotel like this should provide disposable slippers (especially with that carpet) and a robe, it does not. The bathroom amenities could be improved as well. I hate the all in one body wash shampoo.

I once loved this hotel and now almost want to cry over the neglect.

Room Tip: ask for a room opposite of the main road as you can hear traffic from that side.

“A great stay at a great rate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

This hotel is great for business travellers and also for families. It is well located if you travel by car, taxi or train/metro. It is situated in an elegant part of town, close to some embassies. There is a metro station right next to the hotel. You can go by metro directly to the Grand Place or the central station within 10 minutes for less than 2 Euros one way. The hotel has an underground parking for 15 Euros per day. Like all hotel underground parkings in Brussels, this parking is not really designed for big cars unless you are very skilled at parking. The staff was very professional and friendly. I liked my room which was on the 7th floor and overlooking Montgomery square. Because of the thick windows (which are rare in Brussels hotels) you could not hear the traffic . The room was big for a European hotel room, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also great. The Continentall/English breakfast was plenty and of great quality. I also liked the English style bar area which was cosy and atmospheric. I did not get to eat at the restaurant, but it looked great and inviting. I recommend this hotel if you want to have a great stay at a great rate
