“"First Stay In Brussels"”

We stayed at the Leopold as part of an AA Getaway package, and we travelled via the Eurostar from Ebbsfleet, very satisfactory journey, on arrival we were very early and our room was obviously not ready, so the reception booked us in and labelled our luggage and stored this for us,we then went to explore locally and visited the EU Parliament Buildings etc.On our return our room was not quite ready, but within ten minutes it was, we double checked that we being given an Executive Room as this was part of the deal, and advised that yes we were ( we too have been given inferior rooms before in other Hotel Deals ).Our room was on the six floor and on walking through the Corridors approaching the room there was a rather strange smell, you could only explain as Stagnent Water, ( this is mentioned in some other reviews ) once entering our allocated room there was no sign of this smell.
The room had a rather strange shape, the ceiling was rather sloping upon further investigation it became apparent to make full use of the Roof space the Natural Daylight was through two large double glazed Skylights, which had Blinds to pull down and Curtains. The Twin beds were both comfortable, the Wardrobes was adequate for hanging clothes, but the shelving was compromised by the fact 1. The Minbar took up most of the space 2. A safe took up most the rest, with no drawers in which to put your smaller items.Bathroom was cramped,no bath was evident (deal described Shower and Bath) this did not cause us a problem as it was only a short visit,(3 nights) the TV was a Modern LCD with various channels to pick from. The Drink making facilty was rather complicated due to the short lead on the Kettle and where it was supposed to be on the Table meant it did not reach socket unless you place it on the floor, this meant crawling on the floor!! to carry this out, the supply of One Tea Bag (Liptons),and One Coffee was rather penny/cent pinching to say the least.
Breakfast was more than adquate and varied selection of Continental, cooked , fruit and cereals. All staff were polite and helpful during our stay.

Room Tip: Depends on the deal if any that you travel on, you must make sure you get what is booked.

“Mixed experience”

We stayed at the Leopold as part of an AA Getaways package, which promised a free upgrade from standard to executive room. As we arrived at lunch time, we were told our room wasn't ready but another was found. Not until the following day did we realise that our very small twin-bedded room with the internal courtyard view was not an executive room - and by then we were fully installed and couldn't be bothered to ask for a move. There was also an unpleasant smell of drains in the public areas for the first two days of our stay.

The best thing about the Leopold is the Brasserie, which is excellent. And the next best thing is the location, which is a fairly quiet street 5 minutes walk from the edge of the historic part of the city, and 5 minutes walk from the vast modern buildings of the European Parliament.

Breakfast was also good, with a wide choice. Choose a table which already has a big silver thermos of coffee on it to avoid the rather mediocre coffee from the machine.

“Great Location, comfortable sleep, yummy breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We stayed in the hotel 2 nights in December '11. We stayed in an executive room which was a good size but not lighted very well, room were a bit dark but quiet, comfortable beds and a big comfortable bathroom.
Breakfast is gorgeous and staff is friendly and helpful. On reception there was always someone who spoke English very well, as well as Dutch and French.
Location is really good as there is multiple sights in walking distance eg.: Natural Science Museum, Military Museum and the European Quarter.
A few yards up the road is a bus stop where we were dropped of straight from the train station here you can also catch the bus straight into City Centre for Grand Place and in our case the Christmas Market. (check with reception the number and direction of busses).
DO NOT, after dark, wander in the wrong direction which is towards Naamsepoort, whilst we were there the community was quite volatile and riot precautions were taken with police and their vehicles everywhere. We got a little lost one evening, the area & people showed the same dodgy signs you'd be warned by in the UK.
One thing that beats me which I've read in other reviews is that they are very stingy with the coffee/tea tray. On our arrival there was only 1 sachet coffee, 1 sugar and 1 serving milk, I went down and asked reception for more and was only allowed 1 more of each?! Day Two there was two servings of each but 1 serving of each was empty but cleverly closed up so that it looked like they were actually containing something?! Again off to reception I go, and sure as hell I got some doubtful looks and only one replacement of each.
If you're going around the festive period the Light Show in Grand Place is a MUST SEE (first show of the evening is around 16h00).

“definitely shall recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Stayed in a couple at the Leopold for 3 nights from 20 to 23 december. All the staff was very helpful, acceuillant and friendly. The breakfast buffet was really beyond our expectations and offered a good variety of cold and hot food. The location is also great. Amazing New Year trees completed the ambiance and made you feel home. Will definitely come back again.

“Off the beaten track”

I have stayed at the Leopold hotel 4 times and have to say
The hotel has a great location just outside the old city centre
.the rooms are on the small side but have all the mod cons you
Need on a city break. The breakfast buffet has a good choice of
Hot and cold food and we have always had great service.
One minor point ,a couple of the bar staff will only converse in
French !!
Instead of heading into the city centre instead try turning right and
Walk the 100m to the square . Several bars and a couple of pavement
Cafe

Room Tip: Learn a little French
