“Tired and Stale”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2011

When I first arrived, late at night, I was given a room which had a leaking toilet cistern. Getting to the room involved going along narrow back corridors and using what must be the service elevator (only just room in it for me and my suitcase). Avoid room 453!
The next morning I asked to be moved and the people at the front desk were very efficient and polite.
The replacement room didn't have any leaks, but it was very much like the previous room. The carpet, the furniture, the wallpaper all seem old and, sorry to say it, smelly. There is no ventilation in the bedroom (unless you open the window), and certainly no aircon. There is zero heating in the bathroom so the only way you remove the chill there is to keep all the doors open: not ideal.
The smelly problem is exacerbated by the Belgian custom of smoking anywhere and everywhere.
So I would not stay here again, but I could recommend it to smokers (especially smelly ones) as it is pretty good value for money, in a smelly sort of way.
One bonus is you can avoid taking a shower when staying here - nobody will notice.

“like a 2 star hotel in some village in Turkey”

The title says it all. The hotel is not clean at all, full of cigarette-buds and it smells of human faeces. They showed me three rooms before actually showing me one that was halfway clean. The matress however was totally sagged and I decided to leave the hotel because I didn't feel safe. The owner of the hotel was very unfriendly when I decided to leave and tried to intimidate me, so that I wouldn't write a bad review. Guess what? He deserves a very bad review.

“Good stay.. again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

We stayed at this hotel for the second time and as I mentioned in the title it was a good stay again. Hotel has a good location near Avenue Louise, where you can find a lot of shops. Underground just 5 minutes walk down the street.
Rooms are large enough, clean, nice... you can choose from I think 7 types of pillows? Achhh :) Breakfast we had includeed in the price, if you would like to pay for it extra it is really expensive. Staff of the hotel was very kind and polite, exept from the lady by check in... Such a "nice" person... But fortunatelly her colleague at the front desk took care about us,so everything was OK then. My rocommandation

“Great location. Very clean. Great Price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

The location of this hotel is excellent. We found the room to be very clean and nicely appointed....and the price was fantastic. There were many shops and restaurants closeby. We found the room to be nice and quiet. Really, no complaints.

“Great Location. That's about it.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

This hotel is fine, but definitely not 4 stars. I chose it because it's in my preferred neighborhood of Brussels (Ixelles) and the hotel I normally stay in was way overpriced for my date this time. I got a good deal for this hotel on hotels.com, but I would not recommend paying full price.

I arrived well before check-in time, because I had just gotten off a trans-Atlantic flight. After expressing shock that I was trying to check in at 9 am, the receptionist agreed that I could get in to the room at 11, 2 hours before their check in time, so that was super helpful and nice. I went and found a cafe off the Ave. Louise to kill time.

The room was large, but not particularly up to date. The bathroom was a bit small for a hotel of this type, and there was an odd doorstop right next to the bathtub, which you could easily step on when getting out of the shower if you were not paying attention. There was no thermostat or air conditioning. The window opened, but didn't have a screen, so I did not want to sleep with it open.

The chairs in the bar/breakfast area were shabby and in need of an update. WiFi in the room was 19 euro for 24 hours.

It is about a 10 minute walk to the Louise metro, or you could take the tram. It's also very convenient for the Toison d'Or and Louise shopping areas. But if you are looking to stay right near the Grand Place, this is not the hotel for you.

I would recommend this hotel with reservations. If you get a good deal, go for it, but know what you're in for. I would only stay here again if I could not get a decent rate at a hotel I already know and like.
