“Excellent clean hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I have stayed here twice and on each time been impressed. The rooms are very clean and modern. The only two downsides are: (i) on both occasions when I have arrived at the hotel and 'registered' (you have to self-do this) I have had to ask the sole staff member present for help because the machine(s) haven't been working properly (e.g. this latest time the machines claimed I still had all my bill to pay, when in fact, it was all already paid (apart from the 'city tax')); and (ii) the bizarre shower-heads, which are at c. waist-height (aren't shower heads supposed to be c. head height!?).

Room Tip: I don't think you can actually choose your room!?

“Great budget hotel concept!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Max Hotel is the perfect place to stay in Brussels if you want to be close to the city centre, plan on spending most of your time around town, want a comfortable and clean place to take a shower and get a good night's rest, and finally if you like good value for your hard-earned cash! This is not glamorous, but it's run so efficiently, I'd love to see more of these around other European capitals. Bravo Max!

“I've got to hand it to "Max"...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This hotel falls into the cheap chic category. You basically pay for only what you need beyond the room itself. The only downside is that you'll feel like you've just stayed in a very well-kept vending machine for your entire stay since most of the add-ons (e.g. an extra towel or pillow, wireless) are purchased from said machines on the first floor. Check-in has also been de-personalized to the point that you use the self-serve kiosks (you can accept or decline daily maid service at this point). There is a Lobby agent to assist but they simply direct you back to the monitors to complete your check-in if there is a problem. Make sure to have your reservation number with you since this will expedite matters. There is a significant cost advantage (less 15%) to pre-paying for your stay. There is also a change machine in the Common Room if you forget your coins.

Unique Qualities: Located on the scruffy fringe of the Brussels Nord Red Light district, there is nothing seedy about this immaculately cleaned property. It is only a 5 minute walk to Brussel Nord station and barely a 7 minute walk to the central Bourse neighborhood- ideal! The windows are well insulated from even Boulevard Adolphe Max noise but I could hear some rumbles from other rooms. The only thing that may really get under your skin is the ubiquitous "Max" logo figure that frolics throughout the public areas- you'll feel like you've just been taken hostage by the "meeples" from the Carcaconne board game!

**Make sure to pick up the free map to the City available in the common room. It is the easiest to use and has the simplest outline of the mass transit system**

“No customer Service”

Really unfriendly staff, no reaction to complaint about clogged drain. Not able to chage reservation at reception- so I ended up having to pay for an extra night. No answer to emails. Also when I tried to call someone- I got put on hold forever until I hung up... An as if all that wasn`t enough- BILL GOT CHARGED TO MY CREDIT CARD TWICE. If you want to make your stay more stressfull, than t has to be- book this hotel. Otherwise- keep looking!!!

Designer budget hotel very close to the historic centre of Brussels. Very good value for money and no problems whatsoever.
