I have rarely experienced a hotel with such unfriendly, impolite staff. While my room was average (meaning absolutely OK) and the breakfast was acceptable, the staff seemed totally disinterested in their guests. I stayed with a whole group and most had a similar experience - no hellos or thank yous, they leave you waiting by the reception while exchanging private news - quite extraordinary.
What really blew my top was that I had accidentally left my personal keys in the room. I found out later, back in Germany and in the middle of the night, after still being available by phone/email the whole day in Brussels. I called them the next morning and asked if they had found my key - they had, but nobody had given it a second thought that a set of keys might actually be needed and would justify calling the guest and alerting him to the issue. I had been irritated by the lack of service mentality and manners before, but this left me totally speechless.
