I knew of the Ibis Grand Place after I had visited previously albeit just to call in for drinks at the bar. Because I had visited it before and I knew of the Ibis brand, I thought I'd give it a go for a two night stay. I wish I hadn't.
All of the staff I had dealings with were very helpful, in the bar, at reception and in the restaurant for breakfast. I didn't eat there in the evenings as I ate with colleagues elsewhere throughout my stay.
I arrived on a Sunday after my flight was delayed by hours due to heavy fog at Heathrow, so was looking forward to getting to my spacious room. How disappointed I was. The room was so small, you had to dodge the bed to get around the room.
There were no tea or coffee making facilities which I consider a very basic requirement in a hotel room. There was no bin in the bathroom, brown water came out of the warm tap and there was no toilet brush with which to clean the toilet. Even when the chambermaid came to make the bed she didn't clean the toilet. Disgusting.
The price was over the top for what this hotel provided (or didn't provide). The rooms are sub-standard, the hygiene and cleanliness in the room leave much to be desired.
I travel to Brussels around three times a year on business and will certainly not be staying here again.
An online survey after my stay is automated and not dealt with by a real person which is to their detriment, so the post-stay service is lacking in this respect otherwise Ibis would have been keen to engage with such a disappointed customer.
I do not and will not be recommending Hotel Ibis to anyone and my experience means I won't be frequenting any of their other hotels in case the small rooms and lack of tea/coffee are representative of their poor value-for-money brand.
