“A big scam!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This place should not be rated a 4 star hotel. As matter of fact is barely a 3 star. I stayed there for work yesterday night and I had one of the worst stays in my life. The check in took 20 minutes. The hall and the rooms are untidy and creepy. I asked to change room since the heater was not working in the bathroom. The new room was nicer but, there was no heater AT ALL, just an electric heater (risky thing to keep on at night in a old hotel). Finally the toilet had clearly been used before I entered the room!! THis great experience for the astonishing price of 212 euro.
Stay away from this place!

“Tired and managed badly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012 via mobile

The staff are ok here, especially at reception. But that fails to redeem atrocious rooms, shoddy breakfast and a worn, tired interior not cared for in decades.

Room fails include a blocked basin, blown bulbs, ugly furniture, condensation and damp, no sockets, lukewarm water...

Breakfast fails include inedible charcuterie and cheese, broken cereal dispensers, missing cutlery, stale pastries, sour fruit juices, ineffective toaster, and disgusting coffee.

“Lazy staff with little interest”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We booked in to this hotel through work. When we arrived we were told that there was a "technical problem" with our rooms. Thats 5 rooms! We are booked into the hotel next door instead. The guy behind the desk looked like he couldnt care less. I honsetly think he might have just not been bothered making up our rooms so shipped us off. Not very impressed.

“New hotel need to be renewed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Newhotel Charlemagne is really close to the European Comission, so perfect located for those who has a meeting there as we did. We stayed there just for one night and got the room on the second floor. Room was really poor standart, ensuite bathroom was not very clean, so hardly 3 stars, rather two..So expensive minibar (the most expensive I've ever seen), no sewing kit, no shoeblack, no vanity set, hardly one shower gel. I cannot imagine to stay here longer.
But what was good was the staff - we met 3 receptionist and lady in the breakfast room and all of them were really nice. Breakfast includeed in our price was also one of the positives so we could start our day right. Therefore I changed my mind and giving to this hotel 3 points instead of 2. But if it will not be renewed in near future, it will have a big problem to stay a "4*" hotel.

“Good hotel but awful service and dead gadgets”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

The hotel is next to the European Commission, about 100m from the Metro station and within easy reach of plenty of restaurants in the neighbourhood. There is also a bus station around the corner.

Rooms are quite spacious, modern, clean, air conditioner working and bathroom also clean. We have absolutely no problems with the facility but the gadgetry, services and service level leaves a lot to be desired for. It"s a good hotel and I would return to stay there. You just need to be aware of the issues. Here are what we encountered.

- Nice Nespresso machine provided but you have to pay 2.50 EUR for each cup of coffee in room.
- WiFi was available and a User ID and Password is provided upon check-in. We were able to connect to the access point BUT not able to access the internet the entire stay. Complaints to reception met with an apology, "we shall fix immediately" and then, nothing happens.
- Room Service menu provided but kitchen only has salami and cheese. Reception will direct guest to find Room Service or Housekeep in order to obtain service, BUT when found, they don't speak English.
- Room Key resets itself every day, so we have to front up at reception to ask for the key to be reprogrammed again EVERY DAY.
- Beautiful Bosch executive telephone in the room, BUT it does't work... no dial tone. Reception don't seem to be able to understand that without a phone, we are not able to contact reception, housekeeping or room service and have to front up at reception all the time.
- Car Parking was advertised as free, but in reality there was only 12 tiny spots for 10 cars in a VERY tight underground garage. Off street parking is free on weekends, if available.

Room Tip: Rooms are good.
