Le Joli Bois is in a residential area between the old Charleroi-Brussels road and the modern motorway, about half way between the centre of Waterloo and the battlefield area. The rooms are spacious if quirky, but clean and comfortable, and the service is friendly. The breakfast is better than just average, and the coffee is good (which is more than can be said for what is on offer in the 5* hotels I've stayed in around R/P Schumann). There is a bar at le Joli Bois, but it was always closed by the time we got back (usually around 10 pm). On the other hand, the hotel is only a 10 min walk to the neighbourhood centre where there is a choice of restaurants, bars, etc. It has a regular multinational business clientele, perhaps from companies located nearby (although there is a bus service into Brussels (or to Braine station) from the main road), and was fully booked most of the weekdays we were there. It is too close to Brussels to be cheap, but is reasonable value for money. Best of all, it is ideally located for anyone wanting to visit the battlefield area, which is less than 10 mins away by car (but would be awkward to reach on foot), so I don't intend to tell too many people about it, in the hope that there'll be room for me again next time I want to visit Waterloo.
