“Non-descript business hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

My husband and I stayed here while I was on business for two days. The rooms were clean, but characterless. We were greated by a rather surly receptionist our first evening who was in no mood to help us find anywhere to dine other than the hotel restaurant (which was about 10 Euros a more per entree than some quaint restaurants in the nearby town). Clearly there is sufficient business due to the nearby corporations that service and character are not needed. I would recommend this hotel for business only.

“Good business hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2010

Spent one night here when I needed a room at short notice. Hotel is aimed at business clients as the location is next to a number of large business park, well away from central Waterloo. My room was at the back of the hotel and was large, spacious and quiet. Most disappointing aspect was a poor evening meal in the restaurant although breakfast was better.

“Nice hotel, unbelivably bad serivce”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2009

It is clear that the rooms have been recently refurbished, but that was the only good part of staying at Waterloo's Grand Hotel.

I tried to order room service and none of the extensions worked. I had to call the hotel from my cell phone to get someone to answer me, who explain that indeed the extensions marked on the phone didn't work, and I should dial 820 directly. When I asked how I was suppose to know that, she replied "there was no way you should know".

I order the in-room wireless access and the connection would drop all the time. Interestingly enough, the connection was much better from our offices next door the following day than in my room.

After working until late I ordered in-room breakfast around 12.30am, by hanging my order on the door handle. I had asked for breakfast at 7-7.15am, and only when I broke from working at 7.30am I realized the service was late. I opened the room door and found the breakfast order still hanging from the handle! This is the first time that this has ever happened to me in any hotel anywhere in the world.

Upon check-out I asked for a complaint form, and was inform that there wasn't one available!

If you can avoid staying at the Grand Hotel do it. You will have a much more pleasant stay in Waterloo.

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2009

We liked this hotel. We had trouble finding it as the satnav told us it was on the other side of the road. They could do with a few sign posts. Public areas of the hotel are very nice and the room was spacious and clean. I agree that the steps into and out of the reception area are a bit of a nuisance.
The food in the restaurant was fantastic. It was fairly pricey, but the quality was good. It is fortunate that my four year old likes mussels,as there was nothing on the menu for children. The mussels and fries starter at 15 euros was all there was. It was then another 7 euros for an icecream.
Breakfast was adequate, but it was busy and everything kept running out. All milk was uht, which is probably common in Belgium/france, but it was disgusting.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel and I would go there again, if only for the restaurant.

“Business hotel, way overpriced and cleanliness issues”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2009

If you stay in this hotel, odds are you are on a business trip (as some banks and financial institutions have locations in the business park nearby). So I was glad the company paid the bill since at something around 200 EUR/night I found the hotel way overpriced.

Positive points:
Room was spacious, had an armchair and safe.
Restaurant was good, breakfast buffet was a bit limited for a 4-star, more like average.

Negative points:
Having to navigate steps and walk through restaurant with your luggage to get to room wing was somewhat annoying.
Bathroom tiles had dry mold spots, same as shower curtains. Sink rim had stains (burns?). Not acceptable at that price level.

WiFi available at 15 or 20 EUR for 24h, good coverage even at my room almost at the end of the looooong ground floor corrdor.

If company pays the bill and you want to be next door to your meeting at the office park: Fine.
If you want to save the company some money or just need somewhere to sleep and shower: Back to the intersection, down the street past the Carrefour and across the next intersection is an IBIS hotel (but see you get a room out the back due to traffic)
