“Best secret in waterloo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night, it was fantastic. Room was very clean, as was bathroom, bed was comfortable, hotel very quiet. Breakfast that was included and was very nice. After spending an uncomfortable night in another hotel in same area was delighted with this one. If you have a choice, this is the one to pick, spend a few dollars more it is worth every cent

“Nice and spacious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

The service in reception, restaurant and bar was friendly and efficient. You can book and pre-pay taxis which is a nice service as credit card is not often accepted by taxi drivers. The room was large with small sitting area, desk and good space for luggage. Timer (15 min) for heat and extra light in the bathroom. Coffee maker in room. Real duvet and many pillows in bed. Complete amenity kit in bathroom. In room A/C temperature control. Too bad that you can easily hear the corridor noise, your neighbours and the outside. Nice neighbourhood with many good restaurants and shopping close. Wifi is slow and can't handle streaming or large websites.

“Awful - Worst Value For Money Hotel Ever Stayed In - I felt Robbed!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Arriving fairly late in the day we accepted the massive €305 euro per night per room believing therefore it must have some special qualities......still cannot think of anything.

* Despite 5 star prices expect 1 star service including ignorant waiting staff, downbeat receptionists.
* Despite the massive price tag there isn't even a porter to help you with your bags either in or out of the hotel!
* the breakfast was boring and bland. In fact the holiday Inn we stayed at the following night in Germany was incredible in comparison. While we were eating it reached 10 a.m and a couple arrived literally on the button to be told in no uncertain terms that the breakfast was finished! Unbelievably bad service, it was all still sitting out! Why could she not let them take some thing at least while the things may be cleared away? Couple left empty handed. To make matters worse at about ten past, a slightly plump manager turned up (breakfast things still out) spoke to the same girl and then proceeded to take and eat some items from the breakfast!
* The rooms are cold, bland and for the €305 fee I had a view of a concrete floor and another building 100 yds away
* The main building facade looks impressive when you pull up but it is not comparable to the rest of the hotel which is unbelievably tedious.
* Room had a kettle for tea and coffee (Big wow) but no cups, milk, coffee or tea
* Mini bar had the sum of about 4 or 5 items in it at the usual overprices

To sum up I really don't mind paying for good hotels and had done so the previous night in Brugge but I feel absolutely robbed by this crappy establishment and have absolutely no problem in letting others know to save their money and find somthing else

“A comfortable & convenient stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

I stayed at Martin's Lodge (which is located adjacent to the main hotel) when I paid a visit to the historic battlefield at Waterloo. The rooms in the Lodge are styled in a contemporary fashion and proved to be excellent value at Euro 70, including the buffet breakfast (rate booked direct with the hotel via their website).
Registration on arrival is in the main hotel building, but the Lodge is only 50 metres or so away. There is a car park on site with plenty of spaces being available. The main hotel is set back from the road and I did miss its entrance a couple of times before finally spotting it. It is located close to the Matercard office and I assume would be a good choice for business travellers to the town.
Lodge guests have use the facilities of the main hotel although I only did so for breakfast. This was a typical buffet selection but very adequate for my needs. The staff were friendly enough and quite efficient.
During my stay, the hotel had a fairly low occupancy level (judging by the spaces in the car park) and it was very quiet. Perfect for recovering after a long day reviewing battlefield sites & monuments.
There are a couple of small restaurants and a bar/pub within easy walking distance. The centre of Waterloo is probably a 10 minute walk and the battlefield site a 5-10 minute drive.
Finally, I would have no hesitation in staying there again in the future.
