Recently stayed two nights at this hotel.
The location is very good, close to all the sights, restuarants and bars (Mechelen old town is very picturesque and historic). The hotel has a reasonably priced parking garage (no or very limited public parking near hotel) but as other reviewers have said, quite difficult to negotiate and inaccessible to 4x4s or very large cars. Being close to the centre, street facing rooms, as we had, are fairly noisy, so ear plugs or a back room if you are a light sleeper.
The room itself was a little tired but the beds were large and comfortable. Pillows were not very good. Bathroom was in better condition with some nice complimentary toiletries. There were lots of towels but they were all quite small. A/C is being retro fitted but a large fan was provided. Fortunately the weather was not too warm while we were there, so it was not needed.
House keeping was poor - a dust around the room would not have gone amiss (We stayed in an NH hotel in Amsterdam that was looked like it had never been dusted either) and the tea tray was not replenished, so what is the point of having one?
Breakfast was good - plenty to choose from and all very good quality, except the fruit juices which tasted like squash.
We paid an exceptionally low price as part of a last minute deal, so on that basis we were satisfied. However, should we have paid rack rate.....
The Novotel, a few hundred metres up the road looked a lot nicer. Restaurants are plenty in the town. We ate in The Grand Cafe Lamote, a converted brewery very close by and it was excellent as was the Greek restaurant Karimata which is on a large barge moored on the river about 1 km from the hotel.
