“Camesina - Thus Do Certainly Not All”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Camesina is a great place which we've returned to five or six times over the years. We do know Greetje en Hugo by now, which is a plus, but even when that would not have been the case, we would come back every now and then. Greetje is a lovely hostess and a great cook and Hugo the most amiable guide to Antwerp imaginable (and, apart from that, an art lover who can tell you everything about the modern art scene). They both are very, very hospitable. We have stayed in all their four rooms by now, and they are all equally luxurious and beautiful, with sometimes spectacular art on the walls and sweet, small attentions for the visitors. If you go to Antwerp and you want to give yourself a treat, Camesina is the place to go. It's in a quiet street, not far from the city center and near a nice park.

“Beautiful B&B in Antwerp”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

All perfect! Beautiful room, very friendly, just perfect. We'll come back when we're in Antwerp. Better than most hotels we've seen.

“An characterful base for exploring Antwerp”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at the Camesina last weekend. We stayed in Aloisia, at the very top of the house and with its own little terrace - a real suntrap in the mornings. The room was full of interesting decorative touches - antique furniture and a variety of prints and pictures on the walls both in the bedroom and the ensuite. An excellent range of refreshemnts is provided: a small fridge with wines and soft drinks, teas and coffees, small bars of chocolate and even a little pair of liqueuers had been left out to welcome us to the room.

Greetje was an excellent hostess who responded promptly to a couple of quick email queries before our stay and gave us a warm welcome on arrival. She provides an excellent breakfast each morning in a prettily decorated basement dining room, complete with a glass of champagne, a lovely, luxurious touch.

The B&B is in a quiet area and we enjoyed a good night's sleep on a soft mattress and pillows. Although it was a tram ride rather than walking distance to the city centre this was not a problem: Antwerp is a small city and its centre compact so there was no need to use the tram except at the beginning and end of the day. it was worth making the short tram journey in to have a calm, quiet location that allowed for a genuinely relaxing night and early morning in a residential area.

“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2010

We cannot speak highly enough of the Camesina. The ensuit rooms are clean comfortable and elegant, with many extra touches, such as the bottled water, nesspresso coffee maker, kettle with a range of tea, and small chocolate bars. There is a t.v. with two english channels and some D.V.D.s should you wish to stay in.On arrival thre was a welcome tray with chocolate licqueurs.
The champagne breakfasts were the highlight of the stay, and are delicious and plentyful. Our hostess Greetje was welcoming and helpful, she gave us her mobile number in case we needed help when out.She can also get you a ten trip ticket for the bus/tram network for eight euro which is good value.
The only minus is the steep stairs, and Greetje insisted on bringing our suitcase up for us.We felt the room was worth the climb. It is about a 25min walk to the centre but as there is a tram stop round the corner this was not a problem.

“A unique B&B experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2008

We stayed in Josepha, one of 5 rooms in this stunningly refurbished old townhouse in a quiet part of the city. Our room was well stocked daily with fruit, bottled water, loose leaf teas, filter coffee, chocolate bars and complementary bottles of chocolate/orange liqueurs; all welcome after a hard day's sightseeing.

The Harmony tram stop is near the B&B. A frequent number 15 tram takes you to/from the Central Station and the number 7 takes you to the old town centre. Ask Greetje about the cheap 10 trip tram tickets which are very convenient to use and nearly halve the cost of tram travel. Alternatively its a pleasant 25 minute walk to the cathedral in the heart of the city.

Breakfast is a real highlight of this B&B and each room is asked to note the time they'd like their breakfast next morning so that Greetje can serve everything fresh. By the end of our stay we were getting used to the champagne accompanying our orange juice, bowl of fruit topped with youghurt and honey, warm rolls, pastries, selection of meat, cheese, jams, chocolate bars and varied hot dishes. We were made very welcome by Greetje and would definitely stay here again when next in Antwerp

  • Liked — interesting decor, spacious rooms, great breakfasts and welcoming hostess
  • Disliked — steep, narrow staircases to all rooms
