This was our second visit to this hotel, last time was two years previous, then it was clean, rooms were fine, which is why we booked to stay there again whilst we celebrated New Year in Antwerp.
When we arrived the receoptionist was charming and helpful and gave us our room key - room 311. Not only did the room smell heavily of cigarettes, it also had mould growing on one of the walls.
I went back to reception and asked for another room, the receptionist did not ast at all surprised, and told me that only one other was available - 211 - but this had no telephone, which, to us, was not a problem. The room was extremely cold, but was in better condition that the first one. Not only did it not have a telephone, it also did not have a hairdryer (we were not warned of this before taking it).
Also cleanliness was obviously not a priority, both in the bathroom and also the main room. It did have the benefit of a seperate toilet, which was a room so cold we used it to cool our champagne.
The curtains could not be pulled as they were half hanging down.
On January 1, housekeeping did not come to the room to make beds, empty waste bins, or provide soaps, change towels, etc. We were in the room whilst housekeeping were attending to other rooms, they did not even knock on the door. They just couldn;t be bothered.
Cleanliness overall is not an option with this hotel, note the carpets throughtout. Also it states on their hotel details online, that it has a bar and a restaurant, it has neither of these.
Two good points, the staff are very helpful and polite,(this excludes housekeeping) especially in the breakfast room, and the buffet breakfast is good considering it is included in the price.
I would never go back to this hotel again, and would advise anyone to steer clear. Although New Year celebrations in Antwerp are really great and we enjoyed them, the hotel really spoilt our trip.
