“Great location, shame about the hotel!”

Having been to Antwerp a few times, our friends booked us into the Commarporte as they found a good deal on the internet. Great location, but there was no photos we could find.. and now we see why. Upon driving in (€15 a day car parking) checking in, was interesting as we had to side step around a bucket of water that was collecting the drips from the open ceiling, and two staff behind a small desk, sitting down the whole time for check in. One room, one key, and there was three of us in one room. So not great, but we would manage.
Walking up the stairs (I didnt want to risk the lift) ours was on the second floor. We walked onto the second floor and there was an open door straight ahead which looked alright. It appeared to be the show room, as it was more modern than the room we were going to be entering, but no plumbing or lighting either, as it seemed what was to be offered 'in the future'.
Upon opening our room, there was three small single beds in a row where I think a double bed was meant to be. Normally, you get a larger room, but they seemed to figure that three single beds side by side was appropriate. A tiny tv, and a not so clean bathroom, that one of the girls refused to close the shower curtain as it was so dirty.
For €250 for two nights, spread for 3 people, plus €30 car parking, I certainly wouldn't advise this to anyone else. Its really a shame, as its a great location..

“Good location, rooms basic”

Centrally located, staff helpful. Bathroom poor, door was stuck and had to hold the shower while showering.

“At least it is close to the Kulminator.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

I was on a little Thanksgiving beer tour and wanted affordable accommodation in Antwerp close to the Kulminator. The location is good and there is free wifi.

The hotel is extremely run down. There are water stains on the wall and ceiling of the room, and big stains on the carpet. The window shades have greasy hand prints. It was probably last painted and redecorated about 30 years ago. We paid 70 euros including breakfast, but this seemed too expensive for the facilities offered. I'm not that hard to please, but I do have expectations. We couldn't help but joke about it.

In the morning, we couldn't find anyone working at the hotel. Neither at breakfast nor at the reception desk. Breakfast was very basic. We were the only ones eating at the time, and there was not enough milk or juice for the two of us. Coffee was not drinkable. I do not think anything gets refilled once it is gone.

There were signs up that informed that the hotel is getting a remodeling soon and a rename to "The Standard" Right now I guess you could call it the "Sub-Standard." There is a youth hostel close by, which has to be an upgrade over this place.

“Secure parking & would recommend to others and will be back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

Honestly when my wife booked this for me and 2 mates traveling on motorbikes for a few days in europe I told her the most important thing is SECURE PARKING. She definately got that right. The parking is secure and inexpensive as we decided the 3 motorbikes could go into 1 parking space. Yes, I agree with her comment that she had read from other reviews that the hallways needed a paint but dont be put off by this as its so close to main bars etc and the price was brilliant for 2 twin rooms with unsuite bathrooms. The rooms and hotel were clean. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Infact they couldnt do enough for you. I've already recommended to friends and my wife and I will going for a weekend stay soon.

Room Tip: The room was clean and provided everything we needed.

“Great hotel at a good price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Overall a good hassle-free stay with an excellent, free, generous breakfast. Would happily stay here again. The staff at reception were just great and very helpful. The location is perfect for shops, trains etc.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper level room
