We stayed for two nights at Staten and chose it mainly because of location. Staten is a typical small European hotel with creaky floorboards and rooms with character. But it is much better than most in that it is well maintained and comfortable.
Our room was generous size and was in the corner so had lots of windows. An unbelievably small bathroom turned out to have a huge shower. The room was well heated (luckily since the weather was awful) and well ventilated.
The free breakfast was great, typical of European hotels, except that the coffee was real (not instant) and there was some hot food too. The hotel is right on the street so there is a bit of traffic noise, so light sleepers should bring ear-plugs.
The best part was the staff/owners - they were very friendly.
One word of warning - it's late night shopping on Thursday night - so pay for your parking or you'll get a parking ticket like we did.
