“Well situated, friendly hotel”

This is a lovely hotel situated on Molenstraat a short walk from the centre of Den Haag and literally behind the palace.
We were very impressed by the amazing choice of fresh food at breakfast and by the helpfulness of the hotel staff (especially on the bar and at breakfast).
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again but would probably request a room on the first floor. We were on the ground floor and had a lovely view of a wall and then the top of the palace!
The bedroom was newly and nicely decorated and the bathroom spotless. The room was quite small but I don't have a problem with this, although I guess other reviewers might!

Dear Bellydancer_10,

Thanks a lot for your review from your recent stay. Thank you for the nice compliments about our breakfast and bar & breakfast staff. Too bad you only saw a glimpse of the Royal Palace. Next time we need to do better and move you up one floor.
Hope to see you soon!

With kind regards,

“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This is my second stay at the Parkhotel (the first was in 2006). The pros - the location is great - close to shopping and restaurants; the breakfast room is huge and offers a great selection (although a bit pricey at 19 euros); the rooms are renovated - laminate floors, flat screen tvs, nice all-white bathrooms (note that size of rooms varies quite a bit - I've seen very small - fitting not much more than a double bed - as well as a large suites). Ask for a room on the garden side as a big "con" would be to have a room on the street. Molenstraat is a short street but it has bars (and so patrons who make quite a bit of noise as they leave in the early morning hours - and if they don't get you the birds feeding of the trash from the garbage left on the street will). I've had amazing service from the staff at reception - from dealing with room issues to helping with reservation. They are well trained (or just well chosen when hired). The cons - I guess that depends on the room you get. The rooms can be small; some don't have a bathtub - just a shower; walls are paper thin so if you have noisy neighbors, that can be a problem. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Garden side (not on the street) - this is a must.

“Not really the 4-stars standard expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

You are with this hotel close to town center and all the shops (4' walk)
Situated in a small street, the hotel entrance is not really appealing;but you will say to me that the rooms are the most important after the location. I was given a superior double and what a disappointment to see my room located in a corner of the hall on 3rd floor. The bathroom has an inconvenient: the sentence "mind the step" is on the door so you guess correctly that a different level between room and bathroom is existing...in a superior room that is a shame!
the cupboard has a huge iron board inside leaving no more space for your clothes! another shame for the standard of this room
Breakfast is good
If you don't find another 4 star close to center then you can still choose this hotel

Dear stoptheunacceptable,

Thanks for your feedback. I am grateful you stayed with us. With regret I read the room you got wasn't the one you expected. I do not know if you asked assistance from our Front desk staff to change to another room. These possibilities are nearly always available. I do not read in your feedback if this was the case.
I am happy to read that your scores on location, sleeping quality and cleanliness were very good!

“Super base for Den Haag and the surrounding area!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My partner and I really enjoy Den Haag, and this hotel is a in great location; we would certainly go to the Parkhotel again. In fact, when we checked out, we mentioned a couple of things we would have enjoyed, such as a room facing the Palace Gardens, and the man on the desk offered to put this preference on our profile for the next time! It was a last lovely touch as we were leaving. The first was an enthusiastic welcome, then a wonderful breakfast buffet and charming service to go with it, and, it's true...proper light in the very roomy bathroom (and even a magnifying mirror for those older eyes)! We were a little bemused by the absence of a single drawer into which we could unpack, and there weren't so many hangers, but I'm quite sure they would have been provided had we asked. It was a minor thing, but it's good to find those niggles or you wouldn't believe all the good things I've said!

There is a really fun bar just around the corner from the hotel, The Cafe de Oude Mol. On Sunday evenings, they do a kind of happy hour, during which they serve soup and nibbles on the house. We heard a terrific jazz singer and the place was PACKED. Another not-to-miss thing to put on your agenda is a visit to Escher in Het Paleis, an exhibition on the life and work of the graphic artist in the old Royal Winter Palace.

Den Haag is around 30 minutes by train from Schiphol Airport. Also note, trains to Gouda run frequently and take around 20 minutes. Gouda has the largest (Saturday) market in the Netherlands, and it's a good one! Be sure to try Gouda cheese with cumin (komijn) and eat some kibbeling (bits of fried fish) and visit Sint-Janskerk, famous for its stained glass.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Palace Gardens. And if you're a couple, ask for a topper which turns...

“Haven't stayed in such a small room since my Inter Rail days 20+ years ago!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Well, it said single room on the booking and, for €109, that's what I got. The room was dusty and had no safe but TV and free wifi fine. Shower (no room for a bath) was interesting with the temperature varying from scalding hot to freezing cold for no obvious reason!

Breakfast seemed to take the staff by surprise (no milk and coffee machines not switched on) and, for €20, was not good value.

It's safe and central but you need to arrive late and leave early...

Dear londontim2000,

First of all let us thank you for the review. Not a very good experience in our hotel. Temperature variations in the shower were solved after your review by changing the cranes. It now works fine, sadly not during your stay.
The room shouldn't be dusty of course. Our apologies for this not being done properly.
Your experience at our breakfast room was also a slow start from our side. Somehow our breakfast staff was not ready. Machines were not turned on and milk was not yet available. A lack in service which we offer our sincerest apologies for.
Please rest assured that we have spoken with all staff involved and have taken measures to avoid this in the future.

Finally your vision on the single room that you booked. Parkhotel Den Haag has several roomtypes. A single room is part of it. Small but at a budget price and we explain it like this to each potential booker. Other rooms were available during the time your booking was made and also on the day itself. It's a pity there wasn't an opportunity to sell you another roomtype.

Once again, our apologies for the experiences during your last stay.

With kind regards,
Jacques Ravoo
