“Quirky but I wouldn't bother again, money better spent elsewhere”

Looks really cool from the outside but not worth staying in - I think there is a show house there so visit that instead of paying the money to stay here.
The staff were a mix of some nice and some grumpy making you feel like you'd put them out when asking for help.
The room was really clean however it was really bland and boring. The rooms and the hotel have no character once you're inside. There was nothing in the bedding area of the room expect the bunks. The matresses have water protective covers which got quite hot but at least you know they are clean. The sinks aren't in the bathroom but rather in the hallway of the room. The shower has no where to hang clothes up once your in there and as its like a small wet room there is no where to hide them so they don't get wet. It was ok for us as we were friends and didn't mind walking about wrapped in towels but travelling alone and sharing a room it would be difficult to shower and change in private.
The location was good, right next to a train station. There is also a really good pub close by with friendly staff and customers, 1 euro beers and they 'allow' smoking inside! With the train station behind you walk under the hostel and directly round to the right so you end up by a mini mariner, I think it was an Irish pub.
Best = Cleanliness
Worst = Inpractical rooms and boring.

“brilliant, wish had another night there”

this is the best hostel, though also the priciest that i have been in. paid 30 euros for a night's stay in a 4-bed single sex dorm. includes breakfast and fresh bedsheets that you put on yourself.

the setup is cool that you have shower, toilet and sink in separate areas, so you can get lots of people through the morning and shower routines. breakfast is adequate, with lots of bread, cold meats. juice and coffee comes out of a machine, which isn't very tasty. but there is fresh fruit.

beds were comfortable and great location as it is central, next to a big station - Blaak, so trams and metro are there, you can even take an inter-city train from central station if you wish.

checkin was quick and clear, no secure room for left luggage but its all next to the reception counter. it has a bar, but i thought the independant one below the hostel was nicer.

very clean and fresh colours, they offer discounted tickets to museums but were out of them when i was there. roughly 15% off the normal price.

only bug bear is no shampoo or soap for showers, so bring your own! towels can be rented for 1 euro, but its rather small, like the size of a hand towel.

“Very Strange looking but very nice”

I stayed at this hostel in September of 2009 for 3 days. Its a "cube house". It is defintly easy to find since it is so distinctive looking.Over all, the staff were very nice. And they spoke perfect English [as all Dutch seem to].The free breakfast was suprisingly good .Most free breakfast s at hostels tend to be very spartan .The rooms were clean. You do have to constantly push a button to keep the shower going. But i think that this is normal in many hostels on the continent.

Only complaint was that there was no washing machines on premise. There was a couple laundromats within a 20 minute streetcar ride though.Other than that minor issue,it was very good place to stay.

If you go to Rotterdam take the harbor cruise. It was fairly cheap [around $12 i think].
It should be mentioned that food is very expensive in Rotterdam[ it didnt help that the Euro was worth $1.50 ].Most tourists probably skip Rotterdam. But i think that it was a very nice city.

For the record you often hear about crime in Rotterdam.By American standards it seemed to be very safe though.I walked around for 3 days without any problems at all.You might want to ask the staff about areas to stay away from though.

“Centrally located, high prices, super tiny rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2009

It's centrally located (Cubic Houses), 30 seconds from Station Blaak, and Oude Haven (Old Harbour) which is a nice place to hang out with friends getting some beers. The breakfast is abundant and really good and the rooms are nice and clean. However, the rooms are super tiny (we got a triple which was probably illegal to rent to 3 people due to its small size) and the prices are quite high. I would recommend this place only to young students, backpackers and book in advance otherwise it might look like a ripoff.
