“Basic, but the staff are excellent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

This is advertised in many places as 4 star but it is nowhere near that. The rooms are pretty basic and only a few (the more expensive ones) have airconditioning. The main restaurant seems to be reserved for those who are not hotel guests and have booked a function or just a table. Hotel guests seem to be put in the secondary dining room with a lesser choice menu. The food is generally pretty good and plentiful. The bar is small but has a wonderful barman, it is used in early evening by local workers.
This hotel is in the middle of Europort but even so, there seemed to be quite a few tourists using it, even some Americans doing a horse holliday.
The Hotel is very good for a few nights if you have bussines in the Europort area or on a ship but if, like me, you then get stuck there due to some Volcanic eruption closing airspace for 6 days or more, it becomes a bit of a trial.
The best thing about this hotel is its location for working on ships and its excellent staff who went out of their way at times to assist any requests. Even so, I think the hotel is over priced.

“OK, Convenient But A Bit Dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2010

The De Beer is close to Europort so it attracts individuals working and visiting the area on business. Very convenient in that sense. Clean, tidy and efficient but It has a 'Sixties' feeling to it. I felt as though I should be wearing bell bottom trousers and round necked collars! Staff very freindly and efficient. Rooms basic but clean and food is very good. No complaints as I was only there for two nights. Any longer, I feel, could be a bit of a drag.

“Ideal location if working at Europort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

I regularly use this hotel whilst working in and around Europort. The hotel is well run, with very friendly and efficient staff.

The rooms are of an average standard and suffer from a lack of aircon in the summer months. Also light sleepers will not appreciate being so close to the railway line or motorway, although it has never bothered me.

The restaurant serves very nice meals although, as with all hotels the menu becomes a little repetitive during long stays.

Best points are the good food and excellent staff. Downside is the remote location. This is good hotel if on business and it also has an indoor pool as an added bonus.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2007

Stayed at the De Beer for two nights while on business. The location was very convenient for the port, and did provide a lovely retreat from the industrialized atmosphere of the surrounds.

The staff were friendly, the restaurant served good food (there's not much around) and the pool was clean. While taking a dip there were rabbits hopping around outside on the grass, which was a nice sight.

The room was very comfortable with lots of space. I was told the room I had was a luxury room (which I hadn't specially booked). The shower was good and the fittings throughout the room were modern and clean.

Recommended.
