Seeing as the Netherlands is a popular tourist spot and Amsterdam was booked up, my husband and I considered ourselves lucky to find weekend accommodation here. The staff was friendly and the hotel tolerable for someone who will spend most of their visit out and about. If you stay on a Saturday night be warned that there is a lot of noise from the area outside. I was kept awake by thudding disco music until 2am. Whether this is a normal occurrence or not, I'm not sure. The Sunday night was quieter.
There is a pool table and dart board if you get bored. The breakfast is nothing to write home about (in my opinion the coffee they serve could fuel a tanker) and I can't comment on the restaurant because we had dinner else where.
Our major issue with this hotel was the fact that it is a 10-15 minute taxi ride from Leiden Centraal Station. We felt a bit deceived by the add that makes it sound as if the hotel is on the doorstep of the nearest train station ("The Bastion Hotel Leiden/Voorschoten is situated 5 minutes from the central station of Leiden.") There is supposedly public transport that will get you to the station quickly but even the hotel staff couldn't tell us where to find the stop. The taxi trip equates to about 15 euros one way. Taxi costs will add up if you stay for a few days and travel back and forth to the station on a regular basis
