“Great hotel which really captures the essence of Delft”

I really enjoyed my stay at Bridges House. The owner was an absolutely lovely, caring guy who genuinely made me feel like he wanted me to have a good time. I had a lovely room in the attic with wooden beams, which I absolutely loved. The hotel was in the historic centre of Delft, right along one of those many canals. It has a very cosy, homely atmosphere to it, and if you're looking for something more personal rather than those boutique hotels / chains then I'd absolutely recommend it!

“A Charming Hotel In Every Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

My wife and I spent two nights at the Bridges House and were very impressed with it. The key is the charm and hospitality of the owner, Jan Willem. He is the most gracious and accommodating host one could ever imagine. The hotel is more like a bed and breakfast with a communal breakfast in a comfortable sitting room that also serves as the lobby. Timber, Jan Willem's yellow lab quietly pads around during non eating hours just to keep an eye on things. Centuries ago, this was the house of the painter, Jan Steen and it reeks of 17th century charm.
We upgraded to a double sized room on the third floor that overlooked the front street and the canal. This did present two potential problems. 1) The two flights of stairs are about as steep and narrow as you can imagine and there is no lift. If someone had difficulty with stairs this could be a problem. 2) Since the room was overlooking the street there was a good deal of noise that filtered into the room at night. If you are a light sleeper, you might think about asking for a room in the rear.
The bathroom was neat, clean and modern and there was no problem with cleanliness at all. Delft is so tiny that almost any location is "centrally located". Be sure to ask Jan Willem for dining suggestions. He made a couple for us that were outstanding.
We would certainly stay there again.

“A honest review”

My wife and I stayed at the Bridges House Hotel and had a wonderful time. We were therefore very surprised to read the negative comment under the heading "Allein im Larm". As it happened we were staying there at the same time as the German family that wrote this bad review. So here is what really happened: We were staying on the 1st floor and around 3 o'clock at night we were woken up by very loud noise in the room above us. There was shouting at eachother, doors slamming and the sound of breaking glass. It sounded like a fight between a couple. The next morning we looked out of our window and saw a lot of broken glass on the patio behind the hotel. At breakfast the owner apologised for the situation although this was of course out of his hands. The German family was sitting at the table next to us at breakfast and acted like nothing had happened. When asked by the owned they denied they had done anything wrong. Other rooms had also heard the fight and breaking of the window so it was obvious they were lying. When the owner told them they had to pay for the window they broke, they refused, started to act really rude and threatened to post negative reviews on the internet if they had to pay. The owner did not respond to this blackmail and charged them for the damage. Although the owner was ( understanably ) quite upset, he stayed composed and correct.
In short, these horrible people abused this review site. The negative comments they made about the hotel are not true. The Bridges House hotel is a charming place. We had a wonderful stay and have recommended the hotel to many of our friends.

“Must say I was disappointed with this hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2010

This is my third visit to Delft, and must say I was disappointed with this hotel. I asked for a quiet room, and maybe that was the mistake--I got a dark, dingy room with dirty wallpapers, a room with absolutely no character (no pictures, no photos, only plain, wooden furniture) at all, tiny windows with limited view (on one side, the building next door), barely space to walk around. I had to to specifically ask the owner to bring something where I could put my suitcase! The breakfast was disappointing, with only bread, cheese/ham, cereals, orange juice, and hot drinks... nothing hot, no eggs, fruit, or yoghurt. The wireless internet connection was pretty weak. The good things: very firm and comfortable bed, and the bathroom. The location is great, close to the railway station and the town square.

I chose this hotel over the others I had stayed at, because I wanted to treat myself. It is not often that I pay over 100 euros a night, and I would never do it again, I was so disappointed! I will definitely not be going back to this hotel, there are cheaper, more comfortable hotels with nicer rooms and better breakfasts in Delft.

“Wonderful hospitality and location”

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely small canal-side hotel. Jan-Willem G. van der Blom, the owner and his staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is very well located in walking distance from the train station and close to a tram stop. You can, however, walk anywhere in town from the hotel. The city is an enjoyable place to walk around and explore. It was very important to us to have a quiet room, and one with no stairs, so we reserved a junior suite on the ground level at the back of the hotel, looking out on a courtyard. It was extremely quiet. The bathroom was large and modern and the bed and bedding were very comfortable. We appreciated the free WiFi, which worked very well. The breakfast in the cozy lobby was very nice. Note, however, that there are no hot items, eggs or meat, offered. Cold ham and cheese are available. We would have loved to have had yogurt included. Our only concern about the room was the very dim lighting, both in the room and especially in the bathroom. The lighting was inadequate for putting on makeup, shaving or reading. If not for that, we would have been very satisfied with the room. All in all, this is a delightful hotel.
