Last week, it was our men only weekend (without the wives).
We have chosen the Huifkar in Middelburg, because it's centrally located for bicycling around the isle of Walcheren, and because in this town, there was the pub "De Mug" (a famous beer-pub) which was ideally for the evening.
The Huifkar was a small hotel at the market place in Middlelburg (just 5 rooms).
The huifkar is also a restaurant which closes after evening dinner. For going to the rooms, we have to pass the restaurant (no seperate entry).
Breakfast was good (fresh orange juice), but nothing special.
The hosts and the other men/women working in this hotel were very helpfully.
Because we sleep at the market place, we've feared a little of night rumour's, but this was not the problem. Because we sleep with the window a little open (for fresh air) , there was some rumour in the morning (one morning, it was the city's cleaning team, at 6 o'clock (which was good, because I don't like getting up overviewing a dirty market place), the other morning , the rumours came forme the "flea (junk) market", but I've got no problem with this, because I really like such "brocanterie"-markets.
My fellows in the other room have slept little the last evening, because they have lost their key to the room. And they have to sleep at the seats in the restaurant, because there was no reception. The morning team of the hotel found it very funny to see sleeping three men on the seats when they entered the hotel for cleaning the hotel and making up the breakfast room (my fellows have to pay for the key, but this is understandable) . We enjoyed our stay, and laughed a lot with the missing key - affair
For a men's weekend in Middelburg, I surely would stay again in this hotel.
For visiting with my wife for a romantic weekend, maybe, I should go for a charming B&B (if there is one in the neighborhood).
