I stayed at De Admiraal in May, 2011, during a work conference. The hotel is ideal for business or pleasure: centrally located, quiet and extremely comfortable, very clean, and featuring delicious, very reasonably priced breakfast each morning in the sunny front room. Exit through the back garden doors during daylight hours and find yourself traversing a long, lovely garden to the canal; go out the front door and you're in central Utrecht (on foot) within 10 minutes.

A side note: I appreciated enormously the individual-serving espresso maker in my room, as well as the fact that there was a small water closet on my floor (in addition to my room's private bath). As I shared my room, sometimes that second toilet proved extremely handy.

The innkeepers are delightful men, attentive but not fussy or overbearing. I felt warmly welcomed, but also left alone whenever I wished.

I recently stayed for the second time at this much-praised hotel, and once again found it to be exceptionally good value for the money.
The building has character and charm, the rooms are extremely quiet and comfortable, there is gorgeous garden giving on to a peaceful canal, the food is gourmet, and the hosts are eminently charming, well-informed, gracious, helpful, warm where it helps, discreet where it's called for, and the location is ideal: perfect for transport links, people arriving by car, and those who enjoy walking in this wonderful Dutch city.
I'd stay there again in an instant!

This hotel is located outside the city centre, which makes it a nice place for quality sleep. The bus stop is ca. 100 m away and the ride down town takes ca. 12 min.
The host is very friendly, perhaps a bit too hospitable and attentive, but the service is impeccable. My room was nice, even though the bathroom was tiny and a bit tatty.

This hotel is a little way out of town (about a 20 minute walk from the main square and 30 minutes from the station) but it's well worth the extra bit of exercise for the peace and quiet that you get here. The views are stunning and the little garden (backing on to the canal) is very picturesque. More importantly though, the service is fantastic.

Marc was incredibly helpful and attentive but he never out stayed his welcome. He was always more than happy to offer advice and guidance when we asked, and if he didn't know an answer to our questions, he'd go and find out for us. On one of the days that we weren't sure where to go, Marc suggested that we visit the nearby National Park where, among things, there's an art gallery featuring Van Gough's masterpieces. As a result we had a brilliant day out and we knew exactly what to expect when we got there, an added bonus when you're visiting somewhere new.

Another important thing for me at any hotel is the breakfast. At an extra €10 a day, the breakfast here is definitely worth splashing out on, even if just on your last day. As well as the usual continental offering (meats, breads, cheese and fruit) there's also the option of having a cooked breakfast (anything from a fry up to pancakes or eggs benedict) at no extra cost.
