“Stuffy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

I've stayed here before and really liked it back then (10 years ago), but now? I was a bit disappointed. The room was so stuffy, even I had a dry throat and nose and I am very used to dust and all. It needed a good clean (huge cobwebs on the ceiling?) and a make over, it all seemed a bit dated.
But the staff was very friendly, the breakfast buffet very Dutch but sufficient (not sure if I would've thought the same if I were to pay 16 euros for it, though...).
Location was nice, we never had trouble finding a spot to park and it's close enough to the center (if you're smart enough not to wear heals). Garden was beautiful.

“Comfortable and central in Utrecht”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

I stayed 2 nights at the Malie Hotel and found the room clean, comfortable and quiet. The hotel is centrally located in a city where one cycles or walks. It is within walking distance of the main museum.cathedral area and is in an elegant street itself. The free wifi worked fine and the breakfast was good. Nothing spectacular about this hotel but I would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: The street is not particularly noisy but a room at the back is probably quieter.

“Fantastic, friendly, helpful staff..........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

I stayed at the Malie hotel last week as part of a business trip.... If you are getting a taxi here then ask for the Malie hotel rather than the Sandton Malie it was about 9 euros from the Central train station in Utrecht. The hotel is about 20-25 mins walk out of Central Utrecht but there are shops, restaurants and a supermarket fairly close to the hotel.

First impressions were a lovely, welcoming lobby with leather chairs, chandeliers and a well stocked library. The reception staff were some of the most welcoming I have ever experiencedd and it was like they had been waiting for us, they were very pleased to see us! The receptionist quickly checked us in and gave us our room keys. I had a double room which was actually twin beds pushed together. The beds were very soft and there was an extra pillow and blanket in the wardrobe. The room was a good size with wardrobe space, a safe deposit box, three chairs and a small table. The room was, however, quite basic and a little tired looking and lacked any tea or coffee making facilities. There was no refridgerator/mini bar which is always handy for keeping water in or provisions etc. The bathroom was small, but large enough for a shower and a bath. The towels supplied were plentiful and everywhere was spotlessly clean. I have to say considerling the lobby, the rooms were disappointing. Although they were clean, had all the basics and had a superb, high quality, flat screen TV, I thought the room facilities didn't merit the 140 Euros price tag I paid (for one person!).

Breakfast both mornings of my two night stay was of good quality and there was a choice of cereals, bread, cheeses, eggs and bacon, fruit and juices. The coffee machine was very good quality and again the staff were friendly and tried to be helpful. My colleague who has a gluten allergy was offered some gluten free bread. The only downside to breakfast was no toaster as the two they had were faulty.

I think to sum things up I would stay here again because the staff at this hotel are second to none. They are friendly, helpful, go out of their way to make your stay pleasant and are very efficient. If the hotel is given a little face lift I think it would be wonderful

Room Tip: The rooms on floor 'S' are quieter

“Great hotel, nice quiet area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

The hotel was in a nice, quiet location and provided secure (outdoor) bike parking. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast was good. The room was large and the bathroom was very nice. The large balcony overlooked a lovely green garden. The wireless internet was fast. My only issue with the hotel was the lift seemed a little old and felt like it needed servicing or replacing.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony.

“Great service but in need of renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

Staff is very friendly and helpful but unfortunately, the hotel looks tired and needs some renovation. Furniture was partly damaged (in particular on the terrace). Bicycles (available for rent at Euro 9.50) were not taken care off and were basically useless. Housekeeping is not doing its job, rooms were very dusty and the carpet was not vacuumed. Hallways were a bit smelly. Such a pity that management doesn't seem to care about the overall appearance as the hotel as such has its charme. Location is great, in a quiet neighborhood and a 10 minutes walk to shops and breakfast places. We also liked they offered free wifi. We did not like the charge of Euro 15 per person for breakfast.

Room Tip: Rent a bicycle from "Fietspunt" (Nobelstraat 293), they are brand new at a cost of Euro 8...
