“Business Stay January 2012”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I stayed in this hotel on a business trip for three nights. I would agree with other reviews that it is not 4 star and was overpriced. The room was dated and tired. The cost of wifi at €9 was unacceptable (one lap top with internet access for free use by guests). Lots of coffee places nearby offering free wifi with your coffee. Did not have breakfast so cannot comment. Again plenty of coffee places nearby for breakfast. Hotel is well located and the room I had at the rear of the hotel on the 5th floor was very quiet. Staff at reception were friendly.

Room Tip: At the rear of the hotel upper levels

“Average - a good hotel if you just sleep there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Travelling on business.
The + ´s:
- excellent location, just around the corner there is the canal area and the biggest shopping mall just 50 metres away
- friendly service - before travelling there you get a lot of extra infrormation about Utrecht, do not remember to ask
- a taxi transfer to Schiphol airport
- very clean rooms (something you rarely see)
- a nice breakfast (even though you ay 18 euros extra for that which is not mentioned when you book the hotel)

The -´s:
- no minibar in the room
- very cold rooms in wintertime
- all the noises can be heard from other rooms (for example when someone taking a shower...)
- expensive wifi (9 euros / day) - though working very properly
- no restaurant in the hotel, nor a bar

All in all; a good hotel for a stay of 2-3 nights but do not expect any 4-star luxury. Nice and helpful staff and in case you want a late checkout it seems it´s ok.

Room Tip: Please ask a room with a terrace (on the 6th floor) - it´s more quiet there!

“Joining the consensus - not 4 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I got a pretty good price here after being shocked by how expensive Utrecht hotels in general are. The location was pretty good ... an easy walk from the Centraal train station and only a couple of blocks from a restaurant district in the city center. The receptionist was also very helpful in providing directions, both on arrival and for a city walking tour.

The room was a bit on the shabby side, but adequate. Bedding & linens had seen better days, though, and a little more attention to maintenance throughout would be appreciated. There was a large lounge on the 2nd floor where they also had a more-than-adequate breakfast buffet. Of course, it was more-than-expensive too. Wow! And when they added "city tax" to my breakfast and internet charges I got another shock. Even with a pre-paid room I ended up with a substantial bill on check out.

I'm not sure what the other options are in Utrecht, but if I am back I will probably look for one.

“Nice Hotel, but not a 4 star accomodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The hotel is right in the city center. There are restaurants and shops close by and you can walk to the train station, the fair and exhibition center and through the city. The hotel does not offer its own parking and uses the Vredenburg garage. The parking lot is not that easy to find and also not very clean. You should always take all of your belongings out of the car. There is not really a lobby at the hotel. The entrance leads right up to the front desk and to the stairs or the elevator. The staff at the front desk was ok. The elevator is really really tiny and can only be used by one or two people at the most. I would prefer walking up the stairs once the luggage is in the room. The rooms were suprisingly big and nice, but the bathroom was not. It needs renovation and reminded me of the bathrooms on airplanes. There is no restaurant in the hotel, there is only the breakfast area and a small lounge where you can find a computer with internet access, a coffee maker and some refrigerators with beverages. There are also lists to write down your room number and name in case you took something from the refrigerator. There is no staff around serving the drinks. There are only a few chairs and tables and the lounge is not very nice to sit in. Most people prefer to go into their rooms.

I cannot see why this hotel has 4 stars, 3 would be ok, but 4 is too much. It is ok for a day or two, but only if you have dinner outside and spend most of the day outside the hotel. Some rooms face the big intersection and are very noisy, especially once the construction work starts in the mornings straight across the street.
