stayed in the hotel for 4 nights on business in january, paid 515 euro for a double room single occupancy including tax and breakfast. on arrival, check in was smooth and efficient. was given a room on first floor in the front, so not much of a view but quiet enough. only when entered the room and check the facilities list then realised i was given an upgrade. my booking was for a superior room, what it meant was standard double. but i got an executive room, the differences were a free nespresso machine, free soft thick cuddly bathrobe and slippers, more toiletries etc. a full bar and snack choices (pay as you eat/drink). felt really spoilt and luxury. the room was very good size, it was warm and quiet. all the equipment worked well. shower was superb. tv has english channels. wifi was crap but free, normal speed needs to pay extra. seemed pesky for a hotel with such a high standard. breakfast buffet was very good, with plenty of choice, both hot and cold food, staff were friendly and efficient. the good chef bother to alter the choice of food slightly every morning, that made a different for people like me staying for more than one or two nights. the hotel located about 5 mins walk from the central station, sounded convenient but it was on the other side of the town, the main shopping and business area was quite a distance away, about 35 mins walk, so be warned. i was too tired after work to walk that distance again for dinner one night, so just had it in the hotel restaurant, the food was very good, paid about 20 euro for a steak and a drink. it came with salad and curly fries, really delicious. as good as it was, there were a few negative things the hotel could improve. firstly, why provide bath salt when there is no bath tub in the bathroom? also it is a common knowledge that any towel hanging on rails/ hooks mean i want to reuse them, i don't want a new one, why change it when i only used it once? if i want it to be changed, i will leave it on the floor. it is a waste of resources, please don't claim to be environmental friendly when it is not the case. secondly, probably the most disturbing one, was hygienic issue. i found a long strand of hair hanging on the loo seat, and another one hanging on the hair dryer; both were not mine, they were in the bathroom when i first check in. on the night i had dinner in the hotel restaurant, the waitress asked me to sit on a table that has not been made, when there was a table has been made nicely with table cloth, cutlery, candles and all that. i actually sat down already and she asked me to move. then i looked around, the restaurant was empty apart from another two diners sitting separately, both sat with a table being nicely made up. why was i being treated differently? then the cutlery i was given had patches of dried food and greasy finger print, they were wrapped in napkins but the dirt was shockingly disguisting. anyway, waitress changed them when requested. i decided she didn't deserved to be tipped.
overall, i gave this hotel 4 stars out of 5 because it was a good hotel, they gave me a free upgrade and i was very pleased with my room and the facilities inside. however, they didn't deserve a five star because of the hygienic issue, also the waitress in the hotel diner had not given me the good services that other staff in the hotel had. so no full mark on this occasion. hope the hotel manager read this and improve the staff training, not to tarnish the 4 star certificate awarded by tripadvisor, which they proudly displayed in lobby.
