We booked this 'hotel' based on a previous stay in their sister hotel on the other side of the river. The IJselhotel is the height of luxury in comparison to this hotel.

In everything it shines through that this once was a nunnery. It's dusty, grey and unfriendly. The photographer who took the photo's for the Sandton website did an extraordinary job. It looks rather grand.

We booked a room in order not to have to burden my elderly parents, but on entering the room my wife decided that even her room at university was of better quality. The bathroom had a radiator that was so rusted through, it could fall apart any time.
The room in itself was rather elongated and narrow. It smelled damp and had a rickety old kitchen still built in, in which two more beds were squeezed. The main bedroom was so small you had to climb over the first bed to get to the second bed.

The carpet properly hadn't been changed in about 5 decades. It was threadbare. And so was the rest of the furniture. A complete shambles.

The stairwell had an old mattress propped up against the wall and the paint was flaking off the walls.

It felt the nuns had just vacated the building and someone hadn't bothered to upgrade the facilities, but instead called it a 'hotel'.

Needless to say, my wife refused to stay there and she went to stay with my parent after all.

Breakfast was box standard and not very exciting, served by a grumpy old lady. She looked like she was

The hotel is in a beautiful old building, formerly a monestary and a hospital and the atmosphere here is great. We stayed in a basic room, very clean and with a private bath and good shower. We both slept well and breakfast is excellent. Deventer is a lovely city, very wothwile a visit and the hotel is located right in the city centre near the Grote or Lebuinus church.

I went to this hotel 3 times (each time 3 nights) for business reason during Feb 07.

I was very pleased with its atmosphere (a very nice old hospital as you can see on the pictures).
Personel was very friendly.
