Stayed for one night in this hotel during an international Sales and Marketing meeting.
The room had a good bed, TV with some channels, didn't test the internet but the room wasn't clean. The carpet was stained, the shower could have been cleaned better and the hallways were filthy too. Not acceptable at all for a four star hotel.
When we returned at night the late shift receptionist started bugging our colleagues with administration forms (at 12am) while they had checked-in at 4pm. When we asked for our keys in DUTCH (as it is my mother tongue), he said the keys weren't there. I asked again, he responded in English but to no avail. We took our keys from the hangers ourselves as this person was clearly inept.
The breakfast was okay for an Novotel 3 star, but not for a four star hotel. I haved stayed in nicer places with better atmosphere and better food.
The bar people are friendly and helpful, and make sure you have a good time.

I guess this would be your average hotel for an overnight stay + its a great location to be in. The noise from the church bells across the road is a bit annoying at night and in the morning. That said, I definitely wouldn't consider it to be 4 star - probably not even 3 star. The reasons:
a) no gym/spa or any facilities apart from rooms
b) breakfast service is quite poor - I've been to 3 star hotels with a much better breakfast
c) no (or limited) porter service, you have to take your own luggage to your rooms
d) no airconditioning in the rooms - I'm sure it would be pretty hot in the summer months
e) from what I gather the hotel is completely smoke free - if you're a smoker you might want to look elsewhere.
f) they have a paid internet connection costing around 15 euro a day and, frankly, its not value for money - best speed I got was 2Mbps. However they have free internet in the lobby.
g) no decent tv set in the room - just a tiny crt screen (as you would find in a travellodge). and even when you use the tv - the reception in most channels is horrendous
h) wardrobes are TINY - forget spending more than a week here or travelling with a partner cos your clothes will not fit.
h) it seems that only the most exclusive rooms have a minibar
i) the decor is really shabby - the room windows and the shower door especially look like they have been there since the 70s.

On the positive side some rooms have a nice terrace, although in the winter they're not much use as they're covered in ice

Stayed here twice and it’s actually not that bad. It’s a very interesting designed hotel. Seems to have a fair bit of history. A few years ago I expect it was quite an up-market place to stay, but it’s starting to show it’s age a little.
Some rooms are quite small and pokey and lack kettles / safes etc. So rooms though are huge, very nicely appointed and have the essential kettle and safes. The staff are very friendly, and even though the hotel is not the cleanest in the world it’s not that bad. It does have some form of charm about it, but it’s hard to describe where that charm comes from. Breakfast is good but very over priced (15 EUR) and the hotels Japanese restaurant always looks busy. There’s a Supermarket very close by and Hilversum has some decent bars and café, all are walkable from the hotel. Oh -the church over street starts to ring it’s very load bell at 8am in the morning and hotel is not double glazed.

Do not stay in this hotel if you want to lie in bed late in the mornings because the church across the road has real loud bells which sound all the time. Right that is the bad news well that and the fact the bar is no longer open oh and they do not have aircon in the bedrooms and as I was there during the heatwave it was a bit uncomftable at night. The room we had was a bit tatty but for £ 40 a night I can't complain A couple of mins walk from the centre where there are plenty of bars and restaurants.Albert Hien 100m away.
Japanese resraurant looked nice but we never used it.
All in all not a bad hotel if you get it cheap enough.
I would stay there again.
