The Amrath Grand is an acceptable business hotel but lacks some of the touches that make a hotel special.

The location is great, as is the hotel lobby.

We had a confirmed (and paid for) booking for a suite, however when we arrived at the hotel we were told that there were no suites available and were given a standard room.

The desk staff were rather unsimpathetic and also quite unhelpful when we asked about somewhere to park our van. We sorted ourselves out and went to the bar for a drink only to find it closed at 10pm on a Friday night.

The room itself was spacious and comfortable with a good standard bathroom, however the tv was damaged, and the view was of a back yard.

All in all we were disapointed, this was the last night of our holiday and had planned it to be special and the Amrath Grand let us down.

We woud definately return to Haarlem which is a beautiful and charming city full of friendly happy locals, but we would choose another hotel.

Spent a long weekend here in September and was very pleased with everything. Super location and we did have a room overlooking the small street outside the front of the hotel but were not disturbed. Having said this, the Haarlemers - old and young - do tend to stay up pretty late on Friday and Saturday so we didn't retire until around 12.30 both nights. Some great bars just a few yards away too. Free computer in the lobby a bonus.

We spent one night at the Amrath Grand Hotel Frans Hals while visiting a co-worker in Haarlem. The hotel is very close to the square, shopping and restaurants. This is a modern hotel offering comfortable and nicely furnished rooms so if you are looking for more of a historic stay, this is not the place. Our room faced the street which was a problem for our Saturday night stay as the bar crowd kept us up well into the night. I would seriously ask that your room does not face the street if you want a good night’s sleep. Bathroom was spotless but lighting was not adequate. Beds were very comfortable if we could have only gotten to sleep. As others have said, breakfast is pricey ($18 Euro/person) so ate elsewhere. I can see why this hotel is rated highly by fellow Trip Advisors and if not for the noise, I would agree completely.

Best hotel in town. Wonderful staff. However, I think they have a slight bug problem and should do pest control. My room had a silver fish a small bug in the bathroom and one on the bed. I am not so bothered by these but may bother others more. Rooms on 1st and 2nd floor advised.
