Lets start with the positives, this hotel is placed SMACK in the middle of Haarlem center, when you leave the reception you are there! The Grote Kerk, the Market Square, the shopping street, and around the corner you have the lovely Spaarne river, with nice little cafe's and boats sailing by. The train station is within walking distance, and the airport bus stops less than 5mins away ( at centrum, verwulft)
The reception is decorated in an old fashioned style, bordering on kitch, and the lunchroom, decorated in the style of an egyptian temple, leaves any attempt at style at the door, it's VERY tacky, but somehow it works..
The rooms are non inspiring, and not too clean... The mattrasses a bit tired, the bathroom was spacious, but with no attempt at decoration, it came across as a public swimmingpool's shared baths. And I found it odd to enter a non heated room in the middle of January..
At the end of the day, the price was ok for the location, the breakfast buffet was good, and they refilled the plates often. But if you plan to spend a lot of time in your room (ie honeymoon or a romantic getaway) this might not meet your expectations.
