I had stayed at the Carillon about 20 years ago. We booked it for a weekend 2 weeks ago. The restaurant downstairs is excellent and modern. The bar are is the same, excellent and modern. Superb staff of helpful people. Our rooms were #15 and #16 on the 1st floor. They were tastefully decorated and met all our needs. They were also very quiet. I recommend this Hotel to anyone seeking a nice, clean place to sleep in Haarlem/Amsterdam. It is so much cheaper than staying in Amsterdam, which is only 20 minutes away by train. I have already booked a return visit.

The Hotel Carillon staff could not be nicer. They were so helpful. The stairs are steep, but so are most hotels in Haarlem. The rooms have been redecorated somewhat and were very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless. I will stay here again.

Just home from The Netherlands and found this hotel on TripAdviser--it was a great find. Criticism included the steep steps but after being in several other accommodations, this is very normal. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location is central. Breakfast was one of the best we were served. Would not even consider staying in Amsterdam--Haarlem was a much better choice--easily accessible, has all services we needed. The restaurant at the Carillon was also very pleasant.

THis is a very basic hotel located above a bar/restaurant right on the main square of Haarlem. Positives are it's central location, easy walk to train station, and variety of restaurants and cafes. Rooms are sparse and basic but comfortable - if you are happy with 2 star hotels this will do you fine. Access is via a very narrow and steep staircase, not suitable if you can't walk up stairs. Rooms and bathrooms are clean enough. Also a good option if Amsterdam is full or too expensive for you. Note that during parts of the year they set up a fairground in the square which can be quit noisy - try to get a room at the back. Not for those who need their luxuries, but for those just wanting a clean and safe place to spend a few nights this is a good option.
