“Nice room, good location, very helpful/knowledgeable!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed at BB IJ for 4 nights in the middle of May in the cottage room and we really loved our time. The room was adequate size (we had 2 large suitcases and a back pack) and we really appreciated the fridge and coffee maker right in the room.

As far as location goes, it was ideal. We were right near the tram so getting down to Dam Square was simple and quick, and it was nice to not be staying right in the "main drag". We also were able to walk to and from Centraal Station in 15 minutes and the entire walk was quite scenic so it did not feel like we were deprived by not staying right in the heart of downtown.

Upon arrival, Tina and Kamiel had a sheet for us that was very informative including tram stops, restaurant recommendations, and other useful information. We took them up on pretty much all of the suggestions and were very happy we did!! It definitely added to our Amsterdam experience.

Both my boyfriend and I would stay at BB IJ again if we make it back to Amsterdam! Highly recommend it. It was also significantly cheaper than any other places we looked into and we didn't have to worry about shared bathroom (which some friends of ours that we were travelling with had in their hostel).

Towels were our biggest issue. The ones provided were small and they were not changed at all during our stay.

“wonderful garden at the canal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2011

Cosy BnB with large ensuite bathroom, fully equipped kitchenette and a little garden right at the canal. Urban retreat near Amsterdam's famous International Institute for Social History. Lovely and helpful hosts, shop and restaurants nearby, 20 min with bus/tram to Amsterdam center. To be recommended.

“Clean, quiet, beautiful, friendly, centric, comfortable and with a canal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

The hosts go out of their way to make sure one is is well informed to get around the city and welcomed in their premises. The flowers and the canal make it a truly Amsterdam experience. Great bathroom. Only difficulty was that we had not noticed the one night /stay surcharge on the webpage - so value was not the greatest. Other than that - A OK.

“A+ on all counts!”

Arrived at BBIJ earlier than the usual check in time and were delighted to catch Tina truly vacuuming the entire room as we've requested for my husband to prevent an asthma attack. That is very considerate and hospitable considering we only stayed for 1 night. The cottage room is small in size but I'd rather call it cute as it fitted 2 people on our honeymoon and we don't mind being cozy to each other. The cuteness of the room is also attached to a roomy very modern hotel-like bathroom with it's marble walls and flooring.

Breakfast was prepared for us the night before was more than sufficient. We raided it for midnight snack and had more than enough left the next morning. It was an array of different coffees, teas, milk, fruits, yummy cheese, hams, breads, etc. The room was equipped with toaster, coffee maker, water heater, etc. They thought of everything!

The only downside was that coffee wasn't the best. The regular wasn't good and the mocha even worse (they really should change brands). Aside from that small item, everything was dandy.

Should we have more budget, we would have stayed in the adjacent bigger room with space enough for all the queen's luggage and a view of their private courtyard. But since we are a young couple on our honeymoon, the cottage room was a wonderful stay in amsterdam.

“convenient and characterful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2010

We stayed in the Garden suite, the cottage room and nostalgia room which is next door.

All the rooms are reached by quite steep stairs and breakfast in the Nostalgia room is served upstairs via quite a steep stairway so not the most suitable place if you have mobility problems.
The Nostalgia suite is in the house next door and is very comfortable .A great breakfast is served in the dining room. There are two lovely cats living on the premises so perhaps not the place for cat phobes.
The garden suite has a small kitchenette and there is a supermarket nearby , very useful to defray the cost of eating out.
All the rooms were very comfortable and the breakfasts enough to set you up for the day. Trams, buses and boats all pick up nearby and its easy to get to all the main parts of the city..

One tip is the public transport travel cards run on hours not days so a two day card is 48 hours so it makes sense to buy a card as soon as you arrive.

A very welcome haven right on the water with lovely hosts.
