My husband and I recently stayed in the balcony room at Adriaen Van Ostade. We loved it. There was a refrigerator, iron/ironing board, flat screen TV, coffee/tea maker, cups/plates, and alarm clock in our room. On the top level, there is a lounge and kitchen area with free access to internet and kitchen facilities. Jasper Van Capelle, one of the owners, was extemely helpful and polite. He had a guide to the neighborhood printed for us with recommendations on local restaurants, the nearest laundry, grocery store, and post office. There was even a book called the "Undutchables" there for us to become acquainted with Nederlands culture.

There are only two units in the whole bed and breakfast and each unit has a floor to itself. This makes it very quiet and cozy. The rooms are a great size with large windows. The balcony room has a great place to sit out when the weather is warm.

This is a great place to stay if you want to live in Amsterdam like the locals. The area of De Pijp is not very touristy. It's an area where everyday people live and work. Many of the local restaurants do not have English menus but most people speak English and are very helpful if your Dutch is not so good. There are good local cafes and and great places to eat.

In terms of tourist attractions, the Museumpleine, where the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museums are located are in walking distance. You simply follow Ceinturbaan around to Van Baerlestraat to get there. There are trams that go through there regularly and its easy to get around the city from there.

I would recomned this place to anyone going to Amsterdam. Any drawbacks? I tend to prefer my rooms to be a little warm so I found it a little chilly in there. Other than that, it's awesome!

  • Liked — I liked the privacy. It felt like renting an apartment rather than staying at a bed and breakfast.
  • Disliked — It was a little chilly in there for me. But I'm originally from California so I like it warm.

The accomodations were very very good. It is a charming B&B. The Breakfast is good, and the room was clean and bright. It is a little out of the way from the centre but the hosts were really helpful in getting us oriented. Highly recommended.

This B & B has two rooms, one on the top floor and one on the floor below that. The top floor room does not have a balcony, but the other room does. We stayed 3 nights in the top room and 2 nights in the balcony room. Both rooms were fabulous, however the top room actually has more room and the shower is a little bigger. For some reason the shower in the balcony room is very small and hard to move around in. That would be my only complaint, other than the steep stairs, which are everywhere in Amsterdam. The neighborhood was great, there were good restaurants and bars around. The rooms have a fridge in them so we went to the Albert Hein market (which is a short walk) and stocked up on beer, which is very cheap there. The neigborhood is quiet and we had some of the best nights of sleep in this B & B than we've had in a lot of hotels. Transportation is very easy, there are trams everywhere to take you where you want to go. We walked from the hotel to Dam Square quite a few times, but it is a long walk. Yet a very pleasant one, because the weather is perfect there. And if you need any help or directions, the owners, Jasper and Tom, are very helpful. Most people speak English and are willing to give you directions if you ask. We just returned from our trip last week, and we all ready want to go back. I would highly recommend this B & B, it is a great price for really great rooms and hospitality. In Amsterdam you are never very far from anything.

  • Liked — The rooms and the owners
  • Disliked — Just the steep stairs which are everywhere

This is really more like short-rental accommodation rather than a B+B or hotel, there are only 2 rooms available in this B+B, and it is located on a non-descript street in Amsterdam's De Pijp district. It is reachable by a long and circuitous tram ride from Amsterdam's main train station, but you can walk briskly from here to the Blomenmarkt in a little under 30 minutes. There is also a tram directly to the centre, so transport links are convenient enough.

Unlike most Amsterdam hotels, the room you get is very large, and they provide everything and anything you might want in a 'hotel' room - it is like a large studio apartment with a balcony overlooking a pleasant communal area. A flatscreen TV is provided, there is a sink and coffee-making equipment in the room, a sofa, a big bed, etc. The only drawback is that the WC and shower is very, very small... if you sit on the toilet, your knees will probably touch the shower stall. Aside from that, the room and facilities are simply excellent. You also have full use of the shared kitchen facilities (shared with the other guest) and there is also a PC provided for surfing in this common area. All kitchen utensils for cooking, etc. are provided so you can see that this is a perfect place to spend a week or so.

One important drawback is that this place may not be suitable for the elderly or the disabled - the rooms are located at the top of the building, and I cannot remember how many flights of stairs there were, just that there were many!! Carrying luggage up and down the stairs can be hazardous. The stairs were extremely narrow, and since it was shared with the rest of the buildings' residents, the stairwell was somewhat shabby. There was a big beam stored on the stairs, and the stairwell carpet had seen better days. So it was a very pleasant surprise when we arrived at the room! A very nice touch was also the free bottle of wine. :) The guys running this place are really very friendly and attentive, and will leave you wanting for nothing.

Those looking for a conventional hotel would be better off looking elsewhere, but if you're looking for a studio apartment to live in for a few days while you're in Amsterdam, it's hard to find a better place.

  • Liked — The room and its facilities are just great, everything provided for
  • Disliked — Steep staircase, tiny shower and WC

I stayed in Adriaen van Ostade B & B for a couple of days in the beginning of June, and I really enjoyed it. It appeared that they just opened, so everything is brandnew. Usually I stay in hotels in AMsterdam for my work, but this was much better. My room had a balcony, Airco (godthanx), flatscreen tv and was much bigger then I expected. The big fridge in my room and a supermarket around the corner was also a big plus. Only minus I can think off is there is no elivator, and the B &B is on the top floors.

  • Liked — the high standard, clean
  • Disliked — stairs
